DeSantis has criticized Disney over its woke policies and targeted the company\u2019s special status in Florida, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/dems-climate-bill-includes-massive-tax-break-for-mining-industry\/\" title=\"Dems\u2019 Climate Bill Includes Massive Tax Break For Mining Industry\">includes tax breaks<\/a> and autonomy from regulation.<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cDisney Sued Us, We Have No Choice Now But to Respond\u201d<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDisney sued us, we have no choice now but to respond,\u201d Martin Garcia, chair of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, said Monday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/05\/01\/disney-desantis-florida-board-lawsuit-00094642\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a>. \u201cThe district will seek justice in state court here in central Florida where both it and Disney reside and do business.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Nullifying Last-Minute Deals<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Last week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/disney-sued-florida-board-loyal-to-desantis-now-theyll-countersue-disney\/\" title=\"Disney Sued Florida Board Loyal To DeSantis. Now They\u2019ll Countersue Disney.\">newly reorganized oversight board voted<\/a> to nullify the last-minute deals that the previous Disney<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-dropping-dr-oz-from-presidential-council\/\" title=\"Biden Dropping Dr. Oz From Presidential Council\">-appointed board<\/a> made ceding power to Disney.\u00a0Disney responded soon after by filing a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida claiming it was the victim of a \u201ctargeted campaign of government retaliation.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Disney Claims Violation of Constitutional Rights<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Disney claims in its lawsuit that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/facebook-drastically-increases-oversight-board-powers-opening-door-to-mob-rule-removal-of-content\/\" title=\"Facebook Drastically Increases \u2018Oversight Board\u2019 Powers, Opening Door To Mob Rule Removal Of Content\">oversight board\u2019<\/a>s move \u201cnow threatens Disney\u2019s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region and violates its constitutional rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>DeSantis Communications Director Responds<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">DeSantis Communications Director Taryn Fenske responded to Disney\u2019s lawsuit in a statement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe are unaware of any legal right that a company has to operate its own government or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-political-desantis-denounces-disney-lawsuit\/\" title=\"\u2018It\u2019s Political:\u2019 DeSantis Denounces Disney Lawsuit\">maintain special privileges<\/a> not held by other businesses in the state,\u201d Fenske said. \u201cThis lawsuit is yet another unfortunate example of their hope to undermine the will of the Florida voters and operate outside the bounds of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The Agreement and Legislation<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The former board signed an agreement to transfer its power to the company on February 8 and the agreement was recorded with the Orange County Comptroller on February 9 \u2014 the same day that the Florida House passed legislation that renamed the Reedy Creek Improvement District to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and removed Disney\u2019s self-appointed board and replaced it with a board appointed by the governor.<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cThey Are Not Superior to the Laws That Are Enacted by the State of Florida\u201d<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey [Disney] are not superior to the laws that are enacted by the state of Florida,\u201d DeSantis said during a press conference last week. \u201cThey thought they could create a development agreement that would render everything we did null and void.
