Zooey Zephyr (D-Missoula) has announced a lawsuit against the GOP-led Montana House of Representatives in response to her censure last week. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/huge-kansas-republican-does-not-appreciate-sharing-a-bathroom-with-transgender-colleague\/\" title=\"\u2018Huge\u2019: Kansas Republican Does Not \u2018Appreciate\u2019 Sharing A Bathroom With Transgender Colleague\">transgender lawmaker<\/a> is being punished for the remainder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-signs-executive-order-to-make-it-easier-to-vote-calls-gop-election-reform-efforts-an-all-out-assault-on-voting-rights\/\" title=\"Biden Signs Executive Order \u2018To Make It Easier\u2019 To Vote, Calls GOP Election Reform Efforts \u2018An All-Out Assault\u2019 On Voting Rights\">current legislative session<\/a>, which ends this week, for holding up a microphone as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/transgender-lawmaker-sues-montana-over-censure\/\" title=\"Transgender Lawmaker Sues Montana Over Censure\">supporters disrupted proceedings<\/a> in the chamber while chanting, \u201cLet her speak!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zephyr\u2019s complaint argues that the censure violates her First Amendment rights and the rights of her 11,000 constituents to representation. The lawsuit lists the state of Montana, Montana House Speaker Matt Regier, and Montana House Sergeant-at-Arms Bradley Murfitt as defendants, with Zephyr and Missoula County constituents as plaintiffs.<\/p>\n<h3>Standoff Over Transgender Surgeries for Minors<\/h3>\n<p>The standoff occurred as Republican leadership refused to recognize Zephyr to speak, citing violations of decorum rules after Zephyr lashed out at other lawmakers who support legislation that would crack down on transgender surgeries for minors. \u201cI hope the next time there\u2019s an invocation when you bow your heads in prayer, you see the blood on your hands,\u201d Zephyr had said, referring to the opening prayer.<\/p>\n<p>The censure prevents Zephyr from attending or speaking at floor sessions, but still allows her to vote remotely.
