The two leaders met on April 26 and signed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2023\/04\/26\/washington-declaration-2\/\">Washington Declaration<\/a> to reaffirm their countries\u2019 70-year treaty.<\/p>\n<p>Biden shared <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1652372323628986369\">a video<\/a> from his meeting with Yoon on Twitter, describing the event as a celebration of their shared vision and the \u201cdeep friendship that unites the Republic of Korea and the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe United States and Republic of Korea alliance wasn\u2019t born out of shared borders, but shared beliefs: democracy, liberty, security and above all\u2014freedom,\u201d he said, using South Korea\u2019s official name, the Republic of Korea (ROK).<\/p>\n<p>Biden echoed <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.president.go.kr\/speeches\/dZfAH6rj?page=1\">Yoon\u2019s address<\/a> to the U.S. Congress, in which the South Korean leader praised U.S.\u2013South Korea ties as a global alliance that strives to \u201csafeguard freedom and peace around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>North Korea Threatens Military Deterrence<\/h3>\n<p>However, North Korea\u2019s Kim regime has condemned the Washington Declaration as the \u201cproduct of heinous hostile policy\u201d against it and vowed to bolster its military deterrence, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on May 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone can know well that they are making a nuclear war against the DPRK a fait accompli,\u201d the KCNA stated in a commentary piece, using socialist North Korea\u2019s official name, the Democratic People\u2019s Republic of Korea (DPRK).<\/p>\n<p>The KCNA criticized Biden for his \u201creckless remarks\u201d that threatened the end of North Korea\u2019s regime, saying that it revealed the United States\u2019 \u201cinveterate hostility towards the DPRK that has reached its marrow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It claimed that the U.S.\u2013South Korea accord to strengthen extended deterrence and trilateral cooperation with Japan is equivalent to \u201ca <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-says-ironclad-us-south-korea-alliance-founded-on-shared-beliefs\/\" title=\"Biden Says \u2018Ironclad\u2019 US-South Korea Alliance Founded on Shared Beliefs\">dangerous nuclear war plot putting<\/a> up the signboard of security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder such situation, it is quite natural for the DPRK to bolster up its military deterrence corresponding to the grave security environment of the present and th<\/p>\n<h3>70-Year Treaty Reaffirmed<\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5223483\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/04\/26\/id5223483-04262023-DSC00222-Joe-Biden-and-Yoon-Suk-Yeol-1200x800.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol (L) and U.S. President Joe Biden during a press briefing at the White House on April 26, 2023. (Madalina Vasiliu\/The Epoch Times)<\/figure>\n<p>The Washington Declaration outlines a set of U.S. extended deterrence measures, which will involve deploying U.S. strategic assets\u2014nuclear forces\u2014on the Korean Peninsula.<\/p>\n<p>In the declaration, South Korea expressed \u201cfull confidence\u201d in U.S. extended deterrence commitments, and Washington pledged to make \u201cevery effort\u201d to consult with South Korea on \u201cany possible nuclear weapons employment\u201d in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Biden said at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/04\/26\/remarks-by-president-biden-and-president-yoon-suk-yeol-of-the-republic-of-korea-in-joint-press-conference-2\/\">joint press conference<\/a> on April 26 that the United States will deploy nuclear-capable systems to the Korean Peninsula and warned that any nuclear attack by North Korea \u201cwill result in the end\u201d of that regime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut even as we walked in unison for freedom for 70 years, there is one regime determined to pursue the wrong path. That is North Korea,\u201d Yoon said. \u201cNorth Korea has abandoned freedom and prosperity and dismissed peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>North Korea is a single-party state under leader Kim Jong Un. The Kim regime is one of the most repressive in the world and is responsible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nbas-enes-kanter-joins-d-c-protest-urging-congress-to-fight-chinas-genocide\/\" title=\"NBA's Enes Kanter Joins D.C.
