Scalise appeared on ABC News\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/scalise-calls-biden-off-sidelines-debt-ceiling-talks\/story?id=98959756\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This Week<\/a>\u201d Sunday and criticized Biden for rejecting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-dems-call-on-biden-to-negotiate-debt-ceiling-with-mccarthy\/\" title=\"House Dems Call on Biden to Negotiate Debt Ceiling With McCarthy\">debt ceiling bill passed<\/a> by House Republicans and for not negotiating with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) over the debt limit.<\/p>\n<h3>Scalise Calls for Negotiations<\/h3>\n<p class=\"Ekqk yuUa lqtk TjIX aGjv\">\u201cThe White House needs to ultimately get into this negotiation,\u201d Scalise told host Martha Raddatz. \u201cThe president\u2019s been in hiding for two months, Martha. That\u2019s not acceptable to Americans. They expect the president to sit in a room with Speaker McCarthy and start negotiating, not hiding, not waiting and trying to get a debt crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Ekqk yuUa lqtk TjIX aGjv\">Scalise also criticized Democrats for rejecting the Republican bill and challenged them to come up with a better idea. He emphasized that Republicans had passed a bill to address the problem and that it was time for Biden to get involved in negotiations.<\/p>\n<h3>The Republican Bill<\/h3>\n<p>House Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gop-led-house-passes-mccarthys-plan-to-raise-debt-limit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> the \u201cLimit, Save, Grow Act of 2023\u201d on a party-line basis Wednesday. The bill suspends the debt ceiling until it rises by $1.5 trillion or until March 31, 2024 \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crfb.org\/blogs\/whats-limit-save-grow-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whichever comes first<\/a>. The bill also returns spending to 2022 levels and caps new spending at 1% per year; it also reclaims unspent COVID-19 funds and repeals several Biden spending policies.<\/p>\n<h3>Biden Administration&#8217;s Response<\/h3>\n<p>However, the Biden administration said the president would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-administration-says-president-will-veto-mccarthys-debt-limit-proposal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">veto<\/a> the bill before the House even passed it. The White House Office of Management and Budget stated that the bill was a reckless attempt to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-says-president-will-veto-mccarthys-debt-limit-proposal\/\" title=\"Biden Administration Says President Will Veto McCarthy\u2019s Debt Limit Proposal\">extract extreme concessions<\/a> and that it stood in stark contrast to the President\u2019s vision for the economy.
