And that\u2019s understandable. He\u2019s 80. But what occurred at his last press conference was unusual to say the least.<\/p>\n<p>During a joint press conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday, Biden allegedly held a cheat sheet with the name and photo of a reporter he was to call on \u2014 along with the text of a question.<\/p>\n<p>When he called on Los Angeles Times reporter Courtney Subramanian, she said, \u201cYour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-takes-victory-lap-on-unemployment-ignores-inflation\/\" title=\"Biden Takes Victory Lap on Unemployment, Ignores Inflation\">top economic priority<\/a> has been to build U.S. domestic manufacturing in competition with China, but your rules against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-and-media-caught-giving-questions-to-biden-in-advance\/\" title=\"White House and Media Caught Giving Questions to Biden in Advance\">expanding chip manufacturing<\/a> in China is hurting South Korean companies that rely heavily on Beijing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a striking coincidence, the text written on Biden\u2019s cheat sheet which appeared to feature a picture of Subramanian \u2014 along with phonetics on how to pronounce her name \u2014 said: \u201cHow are YOU squaring YOUR domestic priorities \u2014 like reshoring semiconductors manufacturing \u2014 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-cheat-sheet-shows-he-knew-what-topic-reporter-would-ask-him-about\/\" title=\"Biden Cheat Sheet Shows He Knew What Topic Reporter Would Ask Him About\">alliance-based foreign policy<\/a>?\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_540203\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-540203\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">JIM WATSON\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Social Media Reacts<\/h3>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/deep-dive-did-biden-really-know-a-reporters-question-before-she-asked-it-maybe-maybe-not\/\" title=\"DEEP DIVE: Did Biden Really Know A Reporter\u2019s Question Before She Asked It? A day later, Hillary Manning, vice president of communications for the Los Angeles Times, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/la-times-denies-submitting-questions-white-house-ahead-press-conference\">told<\/a> Fox News Digital: \u201cOur reporter did not submit any questions in advance of the Q&#038;A with President Biden. Courtney Subramanian covers the White House for the Los Angeles Times. As such, she is in regular contact with the White House press office seeking information for her reporting. You would have to ask the White House who prepared the document for the president and why they included that question.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But hang on. While it could certainly be possible that a friendly newspaper like the L.A. Times might let the White House know what questions its reporter was going to ask the president, it didn\u2019t necessarily happen that way.<\/p>\n<h3>Prepping for a Press Conference<\/h3>\n<p>When I covered the White House for more than a decade, I got to know a lot of the press and communication staffers in the White House. And one, Dana Perino, who served as press secretary for George W. Bush, once told me how her crew pre-gamed a presser.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First, they pretty much knew who they were calling on, and in what order: A question for the Associated Press, one for Reuters, maybe one to Bloomberg or The New York Times or The Washington Post. Maybe they\u2019d go to then-NBC News\u2019 resident gadfly David Gregory or another talking head from the networks. It bounced around to keep everyone happy.<\/li>\n<li>One time Perino detailed a particular presser that they\u2019d prepped for, trying to guess the questions \u2014 maybe even the phraseology \u2014 that Bush would face. And in that one, they had correctly predicted seven of the 11 questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Let\u2019s be honest: It isn\u2019t that hard to predict what questions reporters are going to ask. Biden and the liberal media? Please. And bring in the South Korean president with a friendly liberal media, you might expect a question about chip manufacturing and competition with China, not, say, a question about China invading Taiwan.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s just what the Biden White House said. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday it was \u201centirely normal\u201d for Biden to hold a cheat sheet that might contain the answer to an expected question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is entirely normal for a president to be briefed on reporters who will be asking questions at a press conference and issues that we expect they might ask about,\u201d Jean-Pierre told reporters.\u00a0\u201cIt is not surprising that yesterday we would anticipate questions that he did receive \u2014 right? \u2014 on the visit with the South Korean president\u201d on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not have specific questions in advance, that\u2019s not something that we do,\u201d Jean-Pierre added.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_540215\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-540215\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kent Nishimura\/LA Times via Getty<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Similarity of Questions<\/h3>\n<p>But back in February 2021, just two weeks into Biden\u2019s term, reports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/white-house-reporters-say-biden-team-asked-them-for-questions-in-advance\">emerged<\/a> that his press office had asked journalists to send questions in advance, drawing criticism from some reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the fact that the two queries were so similar \u2014 that the card for the first reporter called on contained nearly the identical question the White House comms team had prepped. That does seem to stretch credulity.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not impossible, but it seems odd.
