Schumer is threatening to push legislation to discourage alleged forum shopping by Republican plaintiffs in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-announces-new-legal-team-for-impeachment-defense-after-previous-team-collapsed\/\" title=\"Trump Announces New Legal Team For Impeachment Defense After Previous Team Collapsed\">federal district court<\/a> in Texas.<\/p>\n<h3>Why Democrats are Angry<\/h3>\n<p>Kacsmaryk, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, has issued a series of rulings opposed by Democrats. In April 2022, he infuriated pro-abortion activists when he ruled that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was wrong to approve the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/there-are-always-going-to-be-ways-activists-reportedly-plan-to-defy-pro-life-laws-if-roe-is-overturned\/\" title=\"\u2018There Are Always Going To Be Ways\u2019: Activists Reportedly Plan To Defy Pro-Life Laws If Roe Is Overturned\">abortion drug mifepristone<\/a> for public use in 2000. In October 2022, Kacsmaryk struck down a federal guidance exempting LGBT employees from workplace policies on bathroom use, dress codes, locker rooms, and pronoun usage. In December 2021, he ruled against a federal COVID-19 vaccination mandate for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/america-first-vaccines-rolling-out-of-michigan-plant-headed-directly-for-american-hospitals\/\" title=\"America First: Vaccines Rolling Out of Michigan Plant, Headed Directly for American Hospitals\">health care workers<\/a>. In August 2021, Kacsmaryk ruled that the Biden administration could not end the Trump-era \u201cRemain in Mexico\u201d program that requires non-Mexican asylum-seekers arriving at the southern border to wait in Mexico for processing until the program was \u201clawfully rescinded.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>What Schumer is Doing About It<\/h3>\n<p>In an April 27 letter to David Godbey, chief judge for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Schumer complained that plaintiffs in the state are effectively free to select the judge who will hear their case. Several challenges to Biden administration policies, some of which have been brought by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, have been filed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-court-is-fast-tracking-sidney-powells-request-for-a-forensic-exam-of-dominion-voting-machines\/\" title=\"Federal Court Is Fast-Tracking Sidney Powell\u2019s Request For A Forensic Exam Of Dominion Voting Machines\">federal court<\/a> in the Northern District of Texas. Lawyers routinely try to obtain a favorable forum to hear their client\u2019s cases but Democrats say Texas makes it unusually easy for conservative plaintiffs to seek out sympathetic judges like Kacsmaryk.<\/p>\n<h3>Schumer&#8217;s Message<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cUnsurprisingly, litigants have taken advantage of [the current system] to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schumer-threatens-legislation-if-texas-federal-court-wont-discourage-judge-shopping\/\" title=\"Schumer Threatens Legislation if Texas Federal Court Won\u2019t Discourage Judge-Shopping\">hand-pick individual district judges<\/a> seen as particularly sympathetic to their claims,\u201d Schumer wrote in the letter.
