According to <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/awards\/liv-hewson-nonbinary-emmys-yellowjackets-1235594516\/\">Variety<\/a>, Hewson is eligible for the main acting races but has chosen not to submit their work due to the gendered acting categories.<\/p>\n<p>Hewson, who identifies as non-binary and uses \u201cthey\/them\u201d pronouns, explained, \u201cThere\u2019s not a place for me in the acting categories. It would be inaccurate for me to submit myself as an actress. It neither makes sense for me to be lumped in with the boys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At just 16 years old, Hewson came out as non-binary and has been a vocal advocate for gender inclusivity in the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n<h3>Other Award Shows Follow Suit<\/h3>\n<p>The decision by Hewson comes as various award shows have opted to eliminate gendered acting categories. The Film Independent\u2019s Spirit Awards recently announced that they will no longer use categories like \u201cbest actor\u201d and \u201cbest actress\u201d to celebrate stars in TV and movies in lead and supporting roles, according to a statement posted on the group\u2019s website, as previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/tv-film-award-ceremony-to-honor-acting-without-reference-to-gender-heres-what-they-will-now-be-called\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to join the other festivals and award shows that are already moving to celebrate great acting without reference to gender,\u201d said Film Independent President Josh Welsh in a press release. \u201cWe\u2019re also happy to welcome non-binary performers into the Spirit Awards without forcing them to choose to identify as male or female.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Join The Conversation<\/h3>\n<p>As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, it\u2019s important to have conversations about inclusivity and representation.
