When he says Republicans are &#8220;banning books,&#8221; we see a stack of books at the top of which sits a worn paperback copy of <em>To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong>: Journalists and other Democrats frequently complain about Republicans &#8220;banning&#8221; books. They are almost always spreading <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/media\/misinformation-alert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">misinformation<\/a>. Usually the book in question has simply been removed from a school&#8217;s curriculum\u2014sometimes in response to complaints from parents, sometimes because the school board felt like it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why it matters<\/strong>: Perhaps the only things journalists and other Democrats hate more than book &#8220;bans&#8221; is misinformation, defined (by them) as information that has not been thoroughly vetted by journalists or some unaccountable board of left-wing &#8220;experts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, they persist in spreading information about a wide range of topics and will do so even more passionately now that the 2024 election is underway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Analysis<\/strong>: In August 2022, a bunch of liberals started spreading misinformation on social media. They claimed (without evidence) that <em>To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em>\u00a0was on a list of books Gov. Ron DeSantis (R., Fla.) had recently &#8220;banned&#8221; from Florida public schools.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/fact-check-florida-schools-to-kill-a-mockingbird-201081596097\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fact-checked<\/a> the ridiculous claim, writing: &#8220;False. &#8230; A school district in Florida\u2019s Palm Beach County removed [<em>To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em>] from school libraries earlier this year as part of a review, but later returned it, according to district documents. The &#8216;Banned Book List&#8217; shared across social media this week is also bogus, and includes many titles that aren\u2019t banned in Florida, according to groups that track book bans and challenges.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, a number of schools have recently &#8220;banned&#8221; (removed from their required reading lists) the Harper Lee novel about a white lawyer who defends a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman during the Great Depression.<\/p>\n<p>As you might expect, the schools are located in and around Los Angeles, Seattle, and Madison, Wisconsin. Their respective boards took action in response to deranged liberal parents who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/books\/story\/2020-11-12\/burbank-unified-challenges-books-including-to-kill-a-mockingbird\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">denounced<\/a>\u00a0the book&#8217;s &#8220;white-savior story line,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/utah\/2022\/1\/28\/22906501\/seattle-school-bans-to-kill-a-mockingbird-over-racism-concerns-as-wave-of-book-challenges-continues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complained<\/a> that it &#8220;reflects a time when racism was tolerated&#8221; and &#8220;ignores the reality of black agency in resistance,&#8221; whatever that <a href=\"https:\/\/madison365.com\/parents-seek-remove-kill-mockingbird-monona-grove-curriculum-citing-racial-slurs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">means<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It would appear that Sleepy Joe&#8217;s ability to discern fact from fiction is as shoddy as his ability to understand where he is at any given moment.\t<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/biden-old-man-wander-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>WATCH: Two Minutes of Joe Biden Wandering Around Looking Lost<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span>Verdict:<\/span> \t\t<span>We rate this claim 4 Clintons.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Claim: Republican politicians are &#8220;banning books,&#8221; including To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
