The answer is still up for debate. While the center claims that an internal review found no evidence of harm, a whistleblower and the Missouri attorney general remain concerned about the practices there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe transgender center\u2019s assertions don\u2019t line up with what we\u2019ve uncovered so far in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/missouri-ag-investigates-allegations-that-hundreds-of-children-were-harmed-at-transgender-clinic_5047519.html\">our investigation,<\/a>\u201d Attorney General Andrew Bailey <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AGAndrewBailey\/status\/1649568810159030274?s=20\">wrote on Twitter.<\/a> \u201cWe will leave no stone unturned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The center\u2019s internal review committee failed to interview Jamie Reed, the ex-employee whose allegations led to state and federal investigations of the center\u2019s operations, according to Reed\u2019s lawyers. The university\u2019s release of <a href=\"https:\/\/source.wustl.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Washington-University-Summary-of-Conclusions.pdf\">a four-page report<\/a> last week has done little to quell concerns.<\/p>\n<p>While the report claims that physicians and staff followed \u201caccepted standards of care\u201d for young transgender-identifying patients, Reed\u2019s lawyers dispute the accuracy of the figures presented. Reed recorded data on 1,315 patients over a 28-month span, 150 more patients than the university \u201cself-reported\u201d during a 55-month period, her lawyers said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the controversy, the center is making changes, including securing written consent from parents before prescribing gender-transitioning medications to minors.<\/p>\n<h2>Are Minors Being Harmed?<\/h2>\n<p>Reed alleged that staff provided \u201cgender-affirming\u201d prescriptions \u201cwithout complete informed parental consent\u201d and without an appropriate assessment of the child\u2019s needs. She also claimed to have seen \u201cshocking injuries from the medication the Center prescribed.\u201d However, the university\u2019s report found \u201cno patients who had adverse physical reactions caused by medications prescribed by Center providers.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Referrals for Surgery<\/h2>\n<p>Reed alleged that the center\u2019s physicians publicly denied referring minors for gender-altering surgeries, but the university\u2019s report says its medical providers \u201chave not referred patients under 18 for gender-affirming surgery since late 2018, when the Center adopted a policy prohibiting these referrals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Only six \u201cgender-affirming\u201d surgeries were performed by\u00a0Washington University physicians since 2018, the report said. All of those were breast removals for females \u201ctransitioning\u201d to males. All six of the procedures were done after \u201creferrals from other medical providers or patient-initiated self-referrals, not a result of direct Center provider referrals,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<h2>Questions Remain<\/h2>\n<p>While the center claims to follow guidelines for the \u201cstandard of care,\u201d the controversy surrounding its practices continues. The Missouri attorney general has promised to leave \u201cno stone unturned\u201d in the investigation, and Reed\u2019s lawyers remain skeptical of the university\u2019s report.
