According to The New York Times, Biden has held the fewest press conferences since Ronald Reagan, averaging just 10 per year during his first two years in office. That&#8217;s half as many as his predecessor, Donald Trump, who held 19.5 during his first two years. Even Barack Obama and Bill Clinton held more press conferences than Biden.<\/p>\n<p>Biden is also avoiding foreign press, skipping the tradition of holding press conferences with foreign leaders while abroad. Instead, he&#8217;s trying to connect with Americans directly. But is that really the best strategy? The liberal Times called out the president, saying that his strategy of keeping the press at arm&#8217;s length is a bet that he can sidestep those traditions in a new media environment. And it&#8217;s public evidence that Mr. Biden&#8217;s political strategists want to protect him from the unscripted exchanges that have often resulted in missteps and criticism.<\/p>\n<p>Biden is a self-described &#8220;gaffe machine,&#8221; and by avoiding the media, he&#8217;s avoiding making verbal mistakes. But is that really the best strategy for a president? The gaffes are always inconsequential, but they still show a lack of attention to detail and a lack of respect for the people he&#8217;s supposed to be serving.<\/p>\n<p>The White House says that Biden is trying to adapt to the changing nature of information consumption, but is that really an excuse for avoiding the press?
