Potter served just 16 months of her two-year sentence and was released from prison on Monday. <\/p>\n<p>Potter&#8217;s decision to pull out her handgun instead of her Taser was deemed a &#8220;mistake that ended tragically&#8221; by Judge Regina Chu, who opted for a lighter sentence. The decision has left Wright&#8217;s family struggling to find peace, with his mother Katie expressing her anger and dread at Potter&#8217;s release. <\/p>\n<p>Despite the disappointment, the Wright family received a $3.25 million settlement in June 2022 from the city of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, in connection to the shooting. The settlement also included policy changes regarding traffic stop training for officers. <\/p>\n<p>While Potter may no longer serve as a police officer, the fact that she will be able to watch her children grow up and touch them has left the Wright family feeling a sense of injustice. &#8220;She has two.
