When asked whether he believed abortion was a state or federal issue, Graham made it clear that he supported a federal abortion ban and accused Democrats of opposing any restriction. He argued that abortion is a human rights issue and that dismembering a child at 15 weeks is barbaric and out of line with the rest of the civilized world. <\/p>\n<p>But when CNN&#8217;s Dana Bash tried to interject with a point about Roe v. Wade, Graham accused her of carrying water for the Democrats and covering for their extreme position on abortion. He called their proposals &#8220;barbaric&#8221; and welcomed a debate on the issue. <\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s worth noting that Democrats in the House of Representatives passed the &#8220;Women&#8217;s Health Protection Act&#8221; in September 2021, which would have allowed abortions at any time and for any reason before fetal viability. The bill failed to overcome a Senate filibuster. <\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, the Supreme Court recently blocked a ruling from a federal judge in Texas that placed restrictions on the FDA&#8217;s approval of the abortifacient drug mifepristone, which is used in about half of all U.S. abortions.
