A<\/span>Japanese<\/a> World War II ship from 1942 has been discovered off of Luzon island in the South China Sea. <\/p>\n

The fleet, Montevideo Maru, was discovered after a 12-day research in the sea at depths of more than 4000 meters, or 13,120 feet, which makes the maru’s’s wreckage deeper than the Titanic<\/a>. Before being torpedoed off the coast of the Philippines in 1942, the fleet was being used to transport Allied prisoners from World War II<\/a>, costing Australia 1, 080 lives in the process.<\/p>\n

On July 1, 1942, the Montevideo Maru sank after four missiles were fired at it by a grinder for the United States named Sturgeon. The ship went down within 10 days of being struck.<\/p>\n
