One Egyptian lawyer is suing Netflix and attempting to get the show banned in his country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gharavi insists that even though she\u2019s not sure <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/history\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cleopatra<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was black, she\u2019s equally convinced that the historical ruler wasn\u2019t white, which is how she\u2019s been portrayed in Hollywood before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI remember as a kid seeing Elizabeth Taylor play Cleopatra. I was captivated, but even then, I felt the image was not right,\u201d the director wrote in an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/global\/queen-cleopatra-black-netflix-egypt-1235590708\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for Variety. \u201cWas her skin really that white? With this new production, could I find the answers about Cleopatra\u2019s heritage and release her from the stranglehold that Hollywood had placed on her image?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Most academics concur that the actual Cleopatra&#8217;s&#8217;s chief blood was Grecian Macedonian when she was born in the Egyptian city of Alexandria in 69 BC. The chairman argued that the&#8221; chance of her being whitened&#8221; is&#8221; somewhat unlikely&#8221; due to marriage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gharavi added that she was conscious of how contentious the cast decision would be.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gharavi wrote,&#8221; After conducting the research, I became aware of what a democratic work it would be to see Cleopatra portrayed by an African-American actress.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why doesn&#8217;t Cleopatra make a sister who is depressed? And why is Cleopatra required to be whitened by some men? She enquired. She continued,&#8221; Some Egyptians seem to really value her closeness to white because it seems to give her value.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As they neared production, Gharavi explained how the&#8221; scale and democratic nature of this work&#8221; became apparent.
