The executive order will \u201cdeepen\u201d the \u201cwhole-of-government\u201d approach to climate which Biden has frequently touted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor far too long, communities across our country have faced persistent environmental injustice through toxic pollution, underinvestment in infrastructure and critical services, and other disproportionate environmental harms often due to a legacy of racial discrimination including redlining,\u201d the White House statement asserted. \u201cThese communities with environmental justice concerns face even greater burdens due to climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden, who <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/POTUS\/status\/1649479625246908420\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unveiled<\/a> the executive order in the Rose Garden on Friday, also created the White House Office of Environmental Justice led by a Federal Chief Environmental Justice Officer in order to coordinate \u201cenvironmental justice policy\u201d across the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>The order \u201cmakes clear that the pursuit of environmental justice is a duty of all executive branch agencies and should be incorporated into their missions\u201d and directed the agencies to \u201cconsider measures\u201d which address \u201cadverse environmental and health impacts on communities, including the cumulative impacts of pollution and other burdens like climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRacism is a fundamental driver of environmental injustice,\u201d the statement continued, adding that the order \u201cdirects agencies to actively facilitate meaningful public participation and just treatment of all people in agency decision-making.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One previous executive order from the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/presidential-actions\/2021\/01\/27\/executive-order-on-tackling-the-climate-crisis-at-home-and-abroad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> addressing climate change is \u201cat the center of United States foreign policy and national security.\u201d Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2021\/04\/23\/fact-sheet-president-bidens-leaders-summit-on-climate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hosted<\/a> a climate summit with other world leaders within months of entering the Oval Office.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent executive order follows the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, both of which allocated substantial funds for climate initiatives and renewable energy incentives. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) this week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/aoc-reintroduces-the-green-new-deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reintroduced<\/a> the Green New Deal, a resolution which claims to solve climate change by drastically reshaping the American economy.
