John Fetterman( D., Pennsylvania ).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>This week, Pennsylvania senator John Fetterman( D.) declared that he was&#8221; not the kind of senator&#8221; that the state deserved while dealing with severe depression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/04\/20\/1171070902\/john-fetterman-depression-interview-stroke-mental-health-senate-election-pa\">interview<\/a> with NPR, Fetterman admitted that he was unable to fulfill his duties as a legislator and father while receiving treatment for depression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If I&#8217;m&#8217;m being completely honest, I wasn&#8217;t the kind of senator that Pennsylvanians deserved when I was in the midst of depression, according to Fetterman. &#8221; I wasn&#8217;t the kind of associate I owe to my wife Gisele or my kids Karl, Grace, and August.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fetterman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/fetterman-returns-to-senate-video\/\"><span>returned<\/span><\/a><span> to the Senate Monday after two months of treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center for clinical depression.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>I lost 25 lbs. And occasionally, I may say things that were incoherent, and I might just get lost while wandering around Washington, the lawmaker told NPR.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On his return to the Senate, Fetterman&#8217;s&#8217;s response was&#8221; a big smile ,&#8221; he said. &#8221; I&#8217;ve&#8217;ve missed being here a lot.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Upon rejoining Congress, Fetterman <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/john-fetterman-gives-opening-statement-as-senate-subcommittee-chairman\/\"><span>struggled<\/span><\/a><span> to deliver his opening statement at a Wednesday hearing, mispronouncing words, including the name of Sen. John Boozman (R., Ark.).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fetterman suffered a stroke during his Senate <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/on-campaign-trail-john-fetterman-cited-doctors-notes-attesting-to-his-vitality\/\"><span>campaign<\/span><\/a><span> in May 2022 but returned to the campaign trail in August, reassuring the public that he was &#8220;feeling great, better than I have in years.&#8221; The senator cited a doctor\u2019s note stating that he could &#8220;campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sen.
