Pramila Jayapal (D., Wash.) and Sen. Cory Booker (D., N.J.), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/illegal-aliens-lgbtq-non-english-speakers-may-not-detained-democrats-new-bill\"><span>would<\/span><\/a><span> set a norm that &#8220;vulnerable&#8221; migrants &#8220;may not be detained,&#8221; Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/illegal-aliens-lgbtq-non-english-speakers-may-not-detained-democrats-new-bill\">reported<\/a>. <\/span>Vulnerable groups, according to the bill, include migrants who identify as &#8220;lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or intersex,&#8221; don&#8217;t speak English, or have experienced &#8220;severe trauma.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span>&#8221; This action will go a long way toward restoring humanity and dignity to the immigration system.&#8221; Jayapal spoke about the law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The proposal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/illegal-border-crossings-surge-as-title-42-set-to-expire\/\"><span>comes<\/span><\/a><span> as illegal immigration surges on the southern border. <\/span><span>Border Patrol agents reported 162,317 migrant encounters in March, an increase of 32,000 migrants from February. Eleven of the migrants had names matching ones on the terror watch list, the <\/span><i><span>Washington Times <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2023\/apr\/17\/illegal-immigration-rises-march-migrants-defy-dhss\/\"><span>reported<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Title 42, the policy allowing agents to turn illegal immigrants away due to the pandemic, will expire on May 11. <\/span><span>Biden&#8217;s enforcement of it has come into question, with new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/?post_type=post&#038;p=1717008\"><span>reporting<\/span><\/a><span> showing the administration accepted 99 percent of migrants&#8217; requests made through an immigration app for exemptions from the policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to the Democrats&#8217; bill, the Department of Homeland Security could only hold a migrant who had been classified as&#8221; vulnerable&#8221; if it could demonstrate that enrolling the alien in an community-based supervision program would be&#8221; unreasonable or impractical.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Numerous other provisions in the act, such as a&#8221; presumption that the alien may be released&#8221; during custody hearings, make it more challenging to prosecute immigrants of any standing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A U.S. border patrol agent talks to immigrants at the Texas-Mexico border \/ Getty Images Legislation introduced this week by congressional Democrats would forbid border officials from detaining illegal immigrants who identify as LGBT in almost all circumstances.
