Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the time it was,\u201d Walensky responded. \u201cIt was a wildtype virus that we had, it was even before the Alpha variant, it was the initial wildtype variant, and all the data at the time suggested that people who were vaccinated, even if they got sick, couldn\u2019t transmit the virus to anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked for citations for the claim, Walensky\u2019s press secretary Jason McDonald provided <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMc2106757\">four<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/10.1056\/NEJMoa2107058\">studies<\/a>, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/wr\/mm7020e2.htm\">two<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/wr\/mm7013e3.htm\">published<\/a> by the CDC\u2019s quasi-journal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of the studies are randomised trials, and they all have various flaws. Irrespective of that they all show\u2014what I think nobody can deny\u2014that a proportion of vaccinated individuals get ill, and when ill they also have positive PCR tests as an indication that they will excrete virus,\u201d Christine Stabell Benn, a health professor at the\u00a0University of Southern Denmark, told The Epoch Times in an email. \u201cConclusion: vaccinated individuals can get ill and they can transmit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Tracy Hoeg, an epidemiologist based in California, also said the papers don\u2019t support Walensky\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey all report observed reductions but none of them found that \u2018vaccinated people do not carry the virus, do not get sick,&#8217;\u201d Hoeg told The Epoch Times in a Twitter message. \u201cAre they kidding? Seems delusional to come to that conclusion from those article.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even in March 2021, Walensky\u2019s claim drew criticism from scientists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we know is the vaccines are very substantially effective against infection\u2014there\u2019s more and more data on that\u2014but nothing is 100 percent,\u201d John Moore,\u00a0a virologist at Weill Cornell Medicine, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/01\/health\/coronavirus-vaccine-walensky.html\">New York Times<\/a> back then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s possible that some people who are fully vaccinated could get COVID-19. The evidence isn\u2019t clear whether they can spread the virus to others,\u201d the CDC said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which authorized the vaccines, said when authorizing them that the clinical trials did not test transmission and has maintained that stance to the present day.<\/p>\n<p>Just two weeks after Walensky\u2019s initial statement, made during an appearance on MSNBC, the CDC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/5800-fully-vaccinated-americans-have-contracted-covid-19-74-dead-cdc_3777637.html\">said<\/a> some 5,800 Americans had contracted COVID-19 despite being vaccinated, with 74 dying. The CDC later stopped counting so-called breakthrough infections as the numbers soared. Data has shown that vaccine protection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/new-covid-19-vaccines-dont-protect-well-against-hospitalization-cdc-data_5205993.html\">wanes considerably<\/a> after several months and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/bivalent-covid-19-boosters-provide-transient-protection-against-hospitalization-study-finds_5191902.html\">starts low<\/a> against the current Omicron subvariants, with some papers estimating vaccinated people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/another-study-finds-covid-19-vaccine-effectiveness-turns-negative-within-months_4816368.html\">are more likely<\/a> to become infected over time.<\/p>\n<h2>Another Dubious Claim<\/h2>\n<p>Walensky was also questioned about a Cochrane Review of masks against influenza and COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/masks-not-effective-in-reducing-spread-of-respiratory-viruses-study_5028745.html\">found<\/a> that\u00a0based on the current evidence, masks were not effective in reducing the s<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A top U.S. health official acknowledged on April 19 that people who have received a COVID-19 vaccine can transmit the disease to others.
