A<\/span> federal judge denied an effort from Manhattan<\/a> District Attorney Alvin Bragg to block a House Judiciary Committee<\/a> subpoena of a former prosecutor. <\/p>\n

District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil ruled that former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz must testify before the committee in connection with the indictment of former President Donald Trump, CNN reported<\/a>. She ruled that the subpoena has a “valid legislative purpose.” <\/p>\n

\u201cThe subpoena was issued with a \u2018valid legislative purpose\u2019 in connection with the \u2018broad\u2019 and \u2018indispensable\u2019 congressional power to \u2018conduct investigations,\u2019” she wrote. <\/p>\n

“It is not the role of the federal judiciary to dictate what legislation Congress may consider or how it should conduct its deliberations in that connection. Mr. Pomerantz must appear for the congressional deposition. No one is above the law,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n

Though Vyskocil agreed that political factors were at play, she said her job is to consider the legal merits of the situation and not the political motivation on either side. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m talking about the subpoena. That\u2019s what\u2019s in front of me, not all the political rhetoric that\u2019s been flying back and forth that\u2019s all color, it\u2019s all theater, but it\u2019s not what\u2019s in front of me,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

“We look forward to his deposition,” a House Judiciary Committee spokesperson said about the news of the judge’s rejection of Bragg’s request.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
