Andrew Clyde (R-GA), who focused his inquiry on proposed Title IX changes that seek to block policies that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/fact-sheet-us-department-educations-proposed-change-its-title-ix-regulations-students-eligibility-athletic-teams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201ccategorically\u201d ban transgender athletes<\/a> from school sports teams that match their gender identity, but not their biological sex.<\/p>\n<p>After Clyde explained how Title IX is meant to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded education programs, which he noted had a \u201chistoric impact\u201d on women and girls in women\u2019s sports, the congressman asked Cardona to define a \u201cwoman\u201d while stressing the importance that male and female athletes continue to receive appropriate funding.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What is a woman?<\/p>\n<p>Joe Biden\u2019s Education Secretary REFUSES to answer. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JUSWwiJtLR\">pic.twitter.com\/JUSWwiJtLR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Rep. Trying one more time, Clyde added some specificity, asking the secretary to explain how the Health and Human Services Department defines a \u201cwoman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI lead the Department of Education, and my job is to make sure that all students have access to public education, which includes co-curricular activities,\u201d Cardona said. \u201cAnd I think you highlighted pretty well the importance of Title IX and giving students equal access, whether it\u2019s scholarship and facilities and participation as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exchange was reminiscent of one Sen.
