The deal in the Wilmington, Delaware, case came in the early afternoon, following the earlier selection of 12 jurors and a dozen alternates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe case has been resolved, and it\u2019s been resolved because of you,\u201d state Superior Court Judge Eric Davis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/world\/americas\/us-politics\/fox-news-dominion-lawsuit-settlement-defamation-trial-b2321660.html\">told<\/a> jurors.<\/p>\n<p>A Fox News spokesperson confirmed the settlement had been reached.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute with Dominion Voting Systems,\u201d the spokesperson said. \u201cWe acknowledge the Court\u2019s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dominion lawyer Justin Nelson stated immediately after the deal that \u201cwe wish to express our deepest appreciation\u201d to the court, and said the settlement was for just over $787 million.<\/p>\n<p>Dominion sued Fox and its parent company Fox Corporation, claiming it knowingly spread false claims about its vote-counting equipment following the 2020 election. Fox guests and allegedly some hosts claimed Dominion had paid government bribes, switched votes, and was founded in Venezuela to rig elections for Hugo Ch\u00e1vez.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Fox News has abruptly settled the defamation case brought by Dominion, after a trial jury was selected and lawyers waited in the courtroom to give their openings<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Katie Robertson (@katie_robertson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/katie_robertson\/status\/1648415472147202048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 18, 2023<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIn the coming weeks, we will prove Fox spread lies causing enormous damage to Dominion,\u201d a Dominion spokesperson said in a statement the morning of the trial. \u201cWe look forward to trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The trial was not to be televised, but likely would have seen some of the network\u2019s biggest stars take the stand in addition to Murdoch and his son, Lachlan Murdoch. Prime-time hosts Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity were expected to testify, as well as Fox Business Network Maria Bartiromo and onetime weekend host Jeanine Pirro.<\/p>\n<p>Dominion was prepared to show the jury internal messages from Fox hosts and executives in which they appeared to express knowledge that the claims about Dominion were false. The case could have had major implications for the media, as the landmark 1964 U.S. Supreme Court case Times v.
