(Photo by Drew Angerer\/Getty Images)\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Four months after transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg said he would hold Southwest Airlines accountable for mass flight delays, the airline ordered a ground stop, meaning flights not already in the air cannot take off, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/travel\/article\/southwest-airlines-flight-delays\/index.html\">delaying<\/a> at least 1,820 flights across the country.<\/span>\t<\/p>\n<p>The Tuesday disturbance was due to the failure of a &#8220;vendor-supplied firewall&#8221; that led to the loss of operational data, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/travel\/article\/southwest-airlines-flight-delays\/index.html\">reported<\/a>. The Federal Aviation Administration <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FAANews\/status\/1648334637574356994\">tweeted<\/a> at 10:36 a.m. that Southwest requested a &#8220;pause&#8221; on its departures. The airline resumed service just before noon.<\/p>\n<p><span>Buttigieg came under intense fire in December when Southwest faced a massive system meltdown that led to 16,700 flight cancellations, nearly half of its schedule, between December 20 and 29.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>More than two dozen House Democrats <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/heres-what-the-faa-has-been-focused-on-instead-of-keeping-planes-in-the-air\/\"><span>wrote a letter<\/span><\/a><span> to Buttigieg in January demanding the transportation secretary penalize Southwest Airlines for the cancellations. &#8220;We believe much more needs to be done,&#8221; the lawmakers wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Buttigieg <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/travel\/article\/southwest-flight-cancellations-winter-storm-tuesday\/index.html\"><span>claimed<\/span><\/a><span> in December that he &#8220;made clear&#8221; to the airline\u2019s CEO &#8220;that our department will be holding them accountable for their responsibilities to customers.&#8221;<\/span>\t<\/p>\n<p><span>The secretary said he would hold Southwest to account to &#8220;make sure that this can\u2019t happen again.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Tuesday&#8217;s incident is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/?post_type=post&#038;p=1699101\"><span>latest<\/span><\/a><span> transportation crisis to take place under Buttigieg&#8217;s watch, two months after he faced bipartisan criticism for his slow response after a train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, causing a chemical spill. But Buttigieg has directed his agency to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/buttigieg-racism-scandal\/\"><span>focus<\/span><\/a><span> on racist highways and roadways.
