Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) entered politics in 1970 when she was 37. Ever since then, she\u2019s nursed off the public teat, paid by taxpayers. She\u2019s been in the U.S. Senate for more than 30 years and is set to serve until 2025.<\/p>\n<p>This past February, Feinstein, 89, decided to retire after finishing her term. \u201cThe time has come,\u201d Feinstein told reporters. \u201cIt\u2019s not till the end of next year. So don\u2019t hold your breath. And you know, there are times for all things under the sun, and I think that will be the right time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But a few hours after the announcement, Feinstein appeared confused when reporters asked about her statement not to seek re-election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t made that decision,\u201d she said. \u201cI haven\u2019t released anything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A staffer quickly corrected her, saying, \u201cSenator, we put out the statement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Feinstein appeared surprised. \u201cYou put out the statement?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe put out the statement,\u201d the staffer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know they put it out,\u201d Feinstein said.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last couple of years, there have been more and more stories about how Feinstein is often confused. One member of Congress who met with Feinstein last year said the once feisty senator had clearly lost a step \u2014 or seven.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have worked with her for a long time and long enough to know what she was like just a few years ago: always in command, always in charge, on top of the details, basically couldn\u2019t resist a conversation where she was driving some bill or some idea. All of that is gone,\u201d the lawmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/politics\/article\/dianne-feinstein-senate-17079487.php\">told<\/a> the San Francisco Chronicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was an intellectual and political force not that long ago, and that\u2019s why my encounter with her was so jarring. Because there was just no trace of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And such is life. I remember my dad was fully capable both physically and mentally well into his mid-80s. But around age 87, he began to slide. The next year was even more pronounced until he mostly stopped talking a few months before his death at 89.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll never forget that at my father\u2019s remembrance, a longtime friend of his said: \u201cNowadays, it\u2019s easy to get into your 80s, but hard as hell to get out of \u2019em.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But my father had been retired for decades \u2014 not still working, let alone in the U.S. Senate, representing nearly 40 million constituents.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-73355\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Feinstein appears to have hit the wall (and President Joe Biden, just from my personal experience, seems to as well). The senator hasn\u2019t shown up to the Senate chamber since February. She says she is suffering from shingles and is working from home.<\/p>\n<p>So, not surprisingly, calls have emerged for Feinstein to retire \u2014 even some Democrats have publicly said so. The mood got so bad that Feinstein finally agreed to temporarily give up her seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee due to \u201ccontinued complications\u201d from her shingles diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>But then Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) jumped into the fray to say that calls for Feinstein \u2014 who has missed more than 60 Senate votes \u2014 to resign is sexist.<\/p>\n<p>Calling Feinstein a \u201cchampion for California,\u201d Pelosi said Feinstein \u201cdeserves the respect to get well and be back on duty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s interesting to me,\u201d Pelosi continued. \u201cI don\u2019t know what political agendas are at work that are going after Senator Feinstein in that way. I\u2019ve never seen them go after a man who was sick in the Senate that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Nancy Pelosi on Dianne Feinstein:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s interesting to me, I don&#8217;t know what political agendas are at work that are going after Sen. Feinstein in that way. Instead, it has to do with competency. Feinstein simply cannot do the job anymore \u2014 and in reality, she should have retired years ago.<\/p>\n<p>And in the end, the people who should most want Feinstein to resign are the residents of California.
