Jason Smith (R-Mo.), chair of the House Ways and Means Committee.<\/p>\n<p>Smith and six other Republicans made remarks at an April 18 press conference at the Capitol, organized by the conservative advocacy group Americans for Tax Reform.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5182293\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2023\/04\/09\/id5182293-508581424322_AP-1200x801.jpg\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript><\/figcaption><\/a> The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) building in Washington on March 22, 2013. (Susan Walsh\/AP Photo)<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cTrillions in new spending paired with massive tax hikes on hard-working Americans has been the Democrats\u2019 economic mantra over the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>In just 20 months, these reckless spending policies added $4.8 trillion to the federal deficit through double-digit inflation and massive tax hikes,\u201d said House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo make matters worse, Biden is now doubling down on his detrimental tax-and-spend agenda by proposing the biggest tax hike to date, $4.7 trillion in new taxes for his 2024 budget,\u201d Emmer said.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Adrian Smith (R-Neb.) criticized the administration\u2019s priorities for using the $80 billion in funding granted to the Internal Revenue Service through the American Rescue Plan Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know \u2026 the president\u2019s priorities of growing the IRS, his solution is with more audits and so-called compliance without the customer service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have strategized here to put customer service as the priority. That\u2019s been rejected. I know the president, he has a different idea,\u201d the Nebraska congressman said.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans touted two measures aimed at making life easier for taxpayers.
