Only 37 percent of respondents said they support Biden&#8217;s&#8217;s plan to raise the$ 31 trillion debt ceiling of the United States without cutting spending, compared to 50 % who stated they opposed it. About 80 % of respondents, for instance, backed a proposal that would see the federal authorities recapture unspent COVID relief funds, and 62 percent said they support stricter work requirements for those who receive government benefits. Big majority responses also supported many of the proposals McCarthy has floated in exchange for the debt ceiling deal.<\/p>\n<p>The results follow Biden&#8217;s&#8217;s refusal to discuss the debt limit with McCarthy, which experts predict may be raised by this summer or early fall in order to prevent a U.S. mortgage default. McCarthy believes that the country&#8217;s&#8217;s$ 31 trillion debt is&#8221; too high&#8221; and calls for&#8221; serious, responsible action&#8221; rather than a&#8221; no strings-attached debt-limit increase.&#8221; Biden disagrees and has declined to discuss any mortgage ceiling increase related to spending reductions or other procedures.<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy criticized Biden for that seat during a Monday statement at the New York Stock Exchange, and Tuesday&#8217;s&#8217;s poll results may give the Republican more motivation to continue the fight as the debt ceiling time approaches.<\/p>\n<p>Without exaggeration, if we don&#8217;t take dangerous, responsible action, the American debt will blow up like a ticking time bomb. But what is President Biden&#8217;s&#8217;s response to this situation? He hasn&#8217;t done anything, McCarthy claimed. &#8221; House Republicans likely act because the leader keeps hiding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy was accused of&#8221; holding the full faith and credit of the United States hostage&#8221; by Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates, who swiftly dismissed the conversation.
