Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and is expected to come to vote in the House this week. The bill seeks to prevent biological males from participating in women\u2019s sports. H.R. 734 will amend Title IX to recognize sex as \u201cbased solely on a person\u2019s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The House Education and Workforce Committee already approved the bill 24\u201317, with Democrats voting against it and every Republican voting for it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Administration strongly opposes House passage of H.R. 734,\u201d according to an April 17 statement (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/SAP-HR-734.pdf\">pdf<\/a>) made by the office of the Biden administration. \u201cIf the President were presented with H.R. 734, he would veto it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration addressed the issue by focusing on \u201celementary schoolers\u201d who would miss learning \u201clife skills\u201d if the bill were passed. \u201cPoliticians should not dictate a one-size-fits-all requirement that forces coaches to remove kids from their teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement talked about a \u201cnationwide mental health crisis\u201d suffered by transgender youth who will be further stigmatized following the passage of such a law. \u201cDiscrimination has no place in our nation\u2019s schools or on our playing fields.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the administration blamed Congressional Republicans for prioritizing policies that \u201cdiscriminate against children\u201d instead of focusing on \u201cpressing issues\u201d like \u201craising teacher pay, keeping guns out of schools, addressing the mental health crisis our youth face, and helping students learn and recover academically from unprecedented disruptions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the statement failed to address issues faced by female athletes due to the presence of males in competitions, which has historically never been allowed to happen due to the biological advantages males possess.<\/p>\n<h2>Challenging DOE Rule<\/h2>\n<p>H.R. 734 is a direct challenge to a newly proposed Title IX <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/news\/press-releases\/fact-sheet-us-department-educations-proposed-change-its-title-ix-regulations-students-eligibility-athletic-teams\">rule<\/a> by the Biden administration\u2019s Department of Education (DOE) that seeks to make school policies illegal if they \u201ccategorically ban transgender students from participating on sports teams consistent with their gender identity just because of who they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rule is currently open to public comment.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
