This legal action follows a New York grand jury&#8217;s recent decision, encouraged by Bragg, to charge former President Donald Trump, which received severe backlash from Jordan and other Republicans. Jordan has subpoenaed one of Bragg&#8217;s former top lieutenants, and requested documents and testimony from a current deputy while publicly criticizing Bragg&#8217;s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Bragg, a Democrat, alleges that Jordan has launched &#8220;a transparent campaign to intimidate and attack District Attorney Bragg, making demands for confidential documents and testimony from the District Attorney himself as well as his current and former employees and officials.&#8221; The lawsuit, filed in federal court in New York, argues that Congress doesn&#8217;t have the authority to supervise state criminal prosecutions, and Jordan&#8217;s actions are an infringement on state sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan claims that the prosecution of Trump has federal implications, and if state or local prosecutors can engage in politically motivated prosecutions of former or current Presidents, it could negatively impact how Presidents choose to exercise their powers while in office. The lawsuit says that the subpoena threatens the sovereign powers of the States, confidence in the secrecy of grand jury proceedings, and the integrity of an ongoing criminal prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed just one day after the House Judiciary Committee, chaired by Jordan, announced it would be holding a hearing in Manhattan on violent crime.
