They often do not lie below the mountains more than one, two, or three days and very rarely a week. They are remembered to be formerly frequent, deep, and of long continuance. The elderly inform me that the earth used to be covered with snow about three months every year. The rivers, which then seldom failed to freeze over in the course of the winter, scarcely ever do now. This change\u2026in the spring of the year is very fatal to fruits\u2026I remember that when I was a small boy, say 60 years ago, snows were frequent and deep in every winter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This statement was made before fossil fuels dominated the energy industry and when the world\u2019s population was far smaller than it is today. From all indications, there was indeed notable warming in the 18th century from the previous \u201cLittle Ice Age\u201d period.<\/p>\n<p>But, let&#8217;s fast forward to the last century. The weather changes, and in 1969, Paul Ehrlich, who was notoriously wrong about everything, told us that \u201cWe must realize that unless we are extremely lucky, everybody will disappear in a cloud of blue steam in 20 years.\u201d Of course, that prediction never came true.<\/p>\n<p>Global cooling was the new craze then. Here are a few quotes from that time:<\/p>\n<p>Boston Globe (1970): \u201cAir pollution may obliterate the sun and cause a new ice age in the first third of the next century\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LA Times (Oct. 24, 1971): \u201cNew Ice Age Coming\u2014It\u2019s Already Getting Colder\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown Science Dept. to the White House (1972): \u201cDeep concern with the future of the world&#8230;falls within the rank of processes which produced the last ice age.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian (1974): \u201cSpy Satellites Show New Ice Age is Coming Fast\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Time Magazine (April 8, 1977) front cover: \u201cHow to Survive the Coming Ice Age\u201d<\/p>\n<p> That was just a sampling, but then something happened. The 1980s arrived, and the Marxist Soviet Union began to collapse. Marxism was proven wrong, and all orthodox Marxists had to give up their religion, right? Actually, all they did was change their colors from red to green, and in the 1980s, the shift to man-made global warming began. Evidence was accruing that the planet, as a whole, was warming up, and this time, it was due to human activity. <\/p>\n<p>Since then, there have been countless predictions about how devastating man-made climate change can be. Even though the earth has gone from global warming (1700s) to global cooling (mid-20th century) and then back to global warming (since the 1980s), this time, the change is caused by humans. <\/p>\n<p>Industry is now pouring billions into the climate change hoax. It matters not if climate change is actually happening. Money is money, and if money can be made, any lie, swindle or fraud will do. The Left controls the global propaganda machine now, and turning it around will be a monumental task. <\/p>\n<p>Scientists also love their cushy jobs and rising influence, and universities crave the money. So, politically correct articles are essential. There is no room for challenging the orthodoxy; tenure might be denied, and jobs might be lost. The pressure to conform is enormous, and thus the \u201cconsensus\u201d is always right.
