A reference to one of NPR&#8217;s&#8217;s private papers from Tuesday was included in its most recent tweet.<\/p>\n<p>Following Twitter&#8217;s&#8217;s travel, NPR updated its Twitter profile to say that it is&#8221; an independent news organization committed to educating the public about the community around us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NPR President and CEO John Lansing expressed his&#8221; disturbed&#8221; by Twitter&#8217;s&#8217;s initial decision to refer to the outlet as&#8221; state-sponsored media&#8221; on Wednesday and branded the action&#8221; unacceptable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Millions of viewers who rely on us for the impartial, fact-based media we offer support NPR and our Member stations. NPR, which stands for&#8221; freedom of speech and holding the amazing guilty,&#8221; was tweeted by Lansing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; Twitter should not judge us in this manner. Public Broadcasting Service ( PBS ) television stations are also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpb.org\/aboutcpb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funded<\/a> by the CPB.<\/p>\n<p>However, the CPB website states that NPR is&#8221; largely funded by associate stations, distribution services, underwriting and administrative grants, and personal contributions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to NPR, less than 1 % of its annual working budget is made up of offers from CPB and governmental agencies and ministries.<\/p>\n<p>David Gura, an NPR journalist, noted that Twitter&#8217;s&#8217;s policy appeared to have been altered in order to remove any mention of the organization as a media release with&#8221; editorial independence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the company&#8217;s&#8217;s own policy stating that the organization shouldn&#8217;t be labeled as such because it has editorial independence, @ elonmusk <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/davidgura\/status\/1643607181395197959\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> on Wednesday that NPR&#8221; state &#8211; affiliated media&#8221; yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The initial&#8221; state-sponsored media&#8221; label assigned to NPR drew comparisons to the&#8221; China state-affiliated media ,&#8221; given to China&#8217;s&#8217;s Xinhua News, and the Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RT_com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">account<\/a>s of Russia Today, which were given the labels&#8221; Russian state &#8211; affiliated media.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, the United States government is not permitted to&#8221; execute any course, control, or control over the content or distribution of public communications programs and services.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The British Broadcasting Corporation&#8217;s&#8217;s( BBC ) Twitter account now bears the same&#8221; government-funded media&#8221; label.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC swiftly criticized the action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221; To resolve this issue as soon as possible, we are speaking to Twitter.&#8221; The BBC has always been a separate entity.
