The suspect was taken to the hospital and later died, the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>The Wisconsin Department of Justice said there is no threat to the community, and a probe is being led by its Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by Barron County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Rusk County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin State Crime Lab and a DCI Crime Response Specialist. All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation,\u201d the statement said. \u201cDCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to the Barron County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Identities of the deceased were not immediately released to the public.<\/p>\n<p>The Barron County Sheriff\u2019s Office\u2019s Facebook account <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=601070438731924&#038;set=a.226484239523881\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">changed its profile picture<\/a> on Sunday to show a thin blue line, which has become <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalpolice.org\/that-thin-blue-line-what-does-it-really-mean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a sign of solidarity<\/a> among and for law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>State officials released statements in response to the killings.<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link c-link--focus-visible\" href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-38489\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILY WIRE APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur hearts are heavy for the Chetek and Cameron police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty yesterday,\u201d Governor Tony Evers, a Democrat, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovEvers\/status\/1645083604836392961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted on Sunday<\/a>. \u201cKathy and I are praying for the officers\u2019 families, colleagues, and the Barron County community mourning this tragic loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am deeply saddened by the tragic loss today of two officers,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WisDOJ\/status\/1644897792723132417\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a> Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul. \u201cI am thinking of their families and the Chetek and Cameron Police Departments at this incredibly difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least one other police officer in Wisconsin has died in the line of duty this year.<\/p>\n<p>Milwaukee cop Peter Jerving, 37, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisn.com\/article\/milwaukee-police-release-video-night-officer-peter-jerving-killed\/43534707#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was fatally shot<\/a> during an attempted arrest of a robbery suspect in February.
