Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) criticized the response to the pandemic, particularly the shutdowns, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/its-all-being-covered-up-sen-ron-johnson-on-missing-batch-of-fauci-emails-covid-origins-and-silencing-of-the-vaccine-injured_5148765.html\">March 22 interview<\/a> on\u00a0EpochTV\u2019s \u201cAmerican Thought Leaders\u201d program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was nothing in the pandemic plan that called for shutdowns,\u201d said Johnson, a Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs member, and the Budget and Finance Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way we shut the economy down, we shut down all the little mom-and-pop shops, but we let the big box stores open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to a study, a massive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/were-living-through-greatest-transfer-wealth-middle-class-elites-history-opinion-1641614\">transfer of wealth<\/a>\u00a0occurred from the middle class to Big Tech and social media giants during COVID-19 lockdowns, Carol Roth said in a Newsweek Opinion piece.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/12\/31\/techs-top-seven-companies-added-3point4-trillion-in-value-in-2020.html\">CNBC<\/a>, seven tech companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Facebook, Tesla, and Nvidia, gained $3.4 trillion in market value in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u201cThe number of active business owners in the United States plummeted by 3.3 million or 22 percent over the crucial 2\u2010month window from February to April 2020,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC7461311\/\">study<\/a>\u00a0on the impacts of COVID policies by Robert Fairlie, professor of economics at the University of California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe drop in active business owners was the largest on record, and losses to business activity were felt across nearly all industries,\u201d Fairlie said.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Revolving Door<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Johnson called the government, Big Pharma, Big Tech, and legacy media the \u201c COVID Cartel.\u201d He said Big Pharma had captured federal health agencies, legacy media, and social media giants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey controlled the narrative in a way that was highly beneficial to them,\u201d Johnson said. (Dado Ruvic\/Illustration\/Reuters)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Johnson said that \u201cthe revolving door between the federal health agencies and Big Pharma\u201d is very concerning, referring to an undercover <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectveritas.com\/video\/pfizer-executive-mutate-covid-via-directed-evolution-for-company-to-continue\/\">video<\/a> recorded by Project Veritas which shows a Pfizer director talking about the serial passage of viruses for mutation.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jordon Walker, director of R&#038;D strategic operations and mRNA scientific planning at Pfizer, said in the video: \u201cIt [Pfizer] is a revolving door for all government officials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a regulator, you\u2019re not going to really seriously regulate or question your future employer or your previous employer, who will be your future employer once again,\u201d Johnson commented.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/news\/announcements\/pfizer-responds-research-claims\">written statement<\/a> addressing the claim of conducting gain of function and directed evolution research made in the video, Pfizer did not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pfizer-responds-after-director-says-company-is-developing-ways-to-mutate-covid-19_5017297.html?ea_src=ai&#038;ea_med=search\">dispute<\/a> that Walker was or is a Pfizer employee.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Scott Gottlieb, who served as the head of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from 2017-2019, joined Pfizer\u2019s Board of Directors in 2019. Before 2017, Gottlieb was a member of the product investment board at GlaxoSmithKline and the board of directors at Daiichi Sankyo, a global pharmaceutical company based in Japan, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/news\/2017\/04\/fda-nominee-gottlieb\/\">Open Secrets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another official working alternatively in public and private sectors is <a href=\"https:\/\/fnih.org\/news\/press-releases\/dr-julie-gerberding-named-chief-executive-officer-foundation-national\">Dr. Julie Gerberding<\/a>, who served as the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from 2002-2009, was appointed\u00a0president of Merck\u2019s vaccine division in 2009, and became CEO of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Former Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) <a href=\"https:\/\/public3.pagefreezer.com\/browse\/HHS.gov\/15-01-2021T20:37\/https:\/www.hhs.gov\/about\/leadership\/secretary\/alex-m-azar\/index.html\">Alex Azar<\/a>, who held the office from 2018 to 2021, was a senior executive at Eli Lilly for a decade. Before joining Eli, Azar served at HHS for six years as a general counsel and deputy secretary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBig business works very tightly with big government,\u201d Jeffrey Tucker, senior economics columnist for The Epoch Times and founder and president of The Brownstone Institute,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/jeffrey-tucker-6-trillion-created-unprecedented-inflation-all-to-feed-the-lockdown-machine_5087315.html\">said<\/a> on the \u201cGo Woke, Go Broke\u201d segment of the \u201cAmerican Thought Leaders\u201d program.<\/p>\n<p>Tucker cited Milton Friedman, an economist and a recipient of the Nobel Prize, who warned that big business is the biggest enemy of capitalism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey [big business] don\u2019t like competition, and they don\u2019t like freedom. They like the tight relationship with the regulators,\u201d Tucker said.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Fear, a\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Population\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Control\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Tool<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, it\u2019s very easy to manipulate a population, and the best way to manipulate them is with fear,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson said that the technocrats and government health officials used fear to ensure that \u201cthe world was deathly afraid\u201d of the COVID-19 pandemic. \u201cAs a result, when you\u2019re deathly afraid, you\u2019re looking for some relief from that fear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, health officials presented the vaccine as a cure for COVID-19, the senator explained.<\/p>\n<p>When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it was unknown what the potential fatality rate of the disease would be, Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a congressional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rev.com\/blog\/transcripts\/dr-fauci-and-other-cdc-nih-officials-testify-on-coronavirus-march-11\">hearing<\/a> in March 2020 that the estimated mortality rate of COVID-19, \u201cI think if you count all the cases of minimally symptomatic or asymptomatic infection, that probably brings the mortality rate down to somewhere around 1 percent, which means it is ten times more lethal than the seasonal flu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Johnson said some light was shed on this question by John Ioannidis, who analyzed the COVID-19 outbreak on a Diamond Princess cruise ship in February 2020. Ioannidis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2020\/03\/17\/a-fiasco-in-the-making-as-the-coronavirus-pandemic-takes-hold-we-are-making-decisions-without-reliable-data\/\">asserted<\/a> that the disease would be deadly for elderly people, especially with certain comorbidities. Still, the senator pointed out that it would be a flu-like type of disease for the young and healthy. \u201cHis analysis of what happened on the Princess Cruise has pretty well stood the test of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ioannidis, a professor of medical sciences at Stanford University and one of the most-cited scientists worldwide, estimated in a <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32846654\/\">paper<\/a> published a few months after the start of the pandemic that people under 65 \u201chave very small risks of COVID-19 death even in pandemic epicenters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrategies focusing specifically on protecting high-risk elderly individuals should be considered in managing the pandemic,\u201d the paper said.<\/p>\n<p>A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medrxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2022.10.11.22280963v1\">paper<\/a>\u00a0co-authored by Ioannidis assessed that during the pre-vaccination era, the median infection fatality rate of COVID-19 was 0.035 percent for people under 60 years old and 0.095 percent among people under 70.<\/p>\n<p>The paper said these mortality rate estimates in non-elderly populations are lower than previous calculations had suggested.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Cover-Up<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Johnson said he initially was not going to run for Senate in the 2022 midterm election after serving two terms in the upper chamber of Congress but changed his mind because no other lawmaker or congressional committee was conducting hearings on the COVID-19 response, vaccines, or vaccine injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson added he was using his former chairmanship of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs to hold hearings and roundtable discussions to explore questions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hearings I held should have been held in the health committees in both the House and the Senate, [but] they weren\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got connected to the vaccine-injured community. Nobody was advocating for them,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cYou can\u2019t turn your back on people like that. All they wanted was to be seen, heard, and believed because they wanted to be cured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t turn my back on this country. This country is something rare and precious, Johnson continued. \u201c We\u2019re a long way from perfect, but the people of America are good, as I think most people are around the world.
