The donations have caused even Left-leaning legal analysts to question the ethical implications of Merchan\u2019s Democratic contributions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhile the amounts here are minimal, it\u2019s surprising that a sitting judge would make political donations of any size to a partisan candidate or cause,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/04\/06\/politics\/judge-merchan-trump-biden-contribution\/index.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Elie Honig, a former federal prosecutor who is now CNN\u2019s senior legal analyst.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Merchan has been referred to by the former president as a&#8221; Trump-hating judge&#8221; who was&#8221; hand-selected&#8221; by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The Trump Organization was found guilty on 17 matters, including those of crime and falsifying company information, earlier this year by the same prosecutor who presided over the situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trump has also accused Merchan of being politically biased by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-takes-aim-at-new-york-judges-daughter-over-dem-clients\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">pointing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to the judge\u2019s daughter Loren Merchan, whose firm has done work for the campaigns of top Democrats, including Vice President Kamala Harris and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trump was the first former president to become charged with a crime after being detained on Tuesday and accused of 34 misdemeanor counts of falsifying market information for his alleged hush cash payment to Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Prosecutors may show that Trump&#8217;s&#8217;s alleged falsification of business information, which is a misdemeanor, occurred while another crime was being committed in order for Trump to be found guilty of the criminal.
