This move came just days after Trump pleaded not guilty to felony charges brought by the Manhattan district attorney\u2019s office, leading to outrage from Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>On April 6, Jordan wrote (<a href=\"https:\/\/judiciary.house.gov\/sites\/evo-subsites\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/files\/evo-media-document\/2023-04-06-jdj-to-pomerantz-subpoena_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>) to Pomerantz, who authored a book titled \u201cPeople vs. Donald Trump\u201d and was a Manhattan prosecutor under District Attorney (DA) Alvin Bragg, ordering him to appear before the House Judicial Committee to provide testimony.<\/p>\n<p>Pomerantz, who once led an investigation into Trump\u2019s finances, resigned in February 2022 because Bragg was initially unwilling to pursue a criminal case against Trump. Jordan rejected Pomerantz&#8217;s refusal to testify voluntarily and demanded that he provide information relevant to the Committee\u2019s oversight and potential legislative reforms.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the subpoena, Bragg\u2019s office accused House Republicans of attempting to \u201cundermine\u201d an active investigation and criminal case \u201cwith an unprecedented campaign of harassment and intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Alleged Political Motives<\/h2>\n<p>Jordan suggested that Pomerantz\u2019s personal contempt for Trump, as revealed in his book, could have played a role in his push to have Trump indicted. He cited a review of Pomerantz\u2019s book that described it as \u201ca 300-page exercise in score-settling and scorn\u201d and said the book \u201calso reveals the extent to which the New York county district attorney\u2019s office\u2019s investigation of President Trump appears to have been politically motivated\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan also mentioned that at one point in the book, Pomerantz joked that he would have paid money to have the chance to prosecute Trump. At another point, Pomerantz opined that the Manhattan DA\u2019s office would be \u201cwarranted in throwing the book\u201d at Trump because he \u201chad become a master of breaking the law in ways that were difficult to reach.\u201d Jordan claimed that these perceptions may have colored Pomerantz\u2019s work as a special assistant district attorney.<\/p>\n<h2>House GOP Probes<\/h2>\n<p>Jordan has issued requests for testimony from Pomerantz and Carey Dunne, another former Manhattan prosecutor who resigned at the same time as Pomerantz, since the announcement of the indictment against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, for his part, claims the case against him is politically motivated. He has insisted on his innocence in the face of the 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels in the weeks before the 2016 presidential election.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5176971\" style=\"width: 179px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><noscript><\/noscript> Mark F.
