According to the poll, most Pennsylvanians believe the state and the country are heading in the wrong direction, while a slight majority favor Democrats in the next elections.<\/p>\n<p>61 percent of those polled believe that Pennsylvania is fundamentally off track, and 72 percent say the same about the nation. Additionally, 71 percent feel that economic conditions in Pennsylvania are poor.<\/p>\n<p>The Commonwealth Foundation, a Pennsylvania-based think tank connected to The Heritage Foundation, released the results of their quarterly poll, tracking sentiment about the state and nation (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonwealthfoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Commonwealth-Foundation-State-Of-The-State-Q1-2023-Topline-Report.pdf\">pdf<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania remains a battleground state, almost evenly split between political parties.<\/p>\n<p>If the 2024 Presidential election were held today, 48 percent of those polled said they would vote for a Democratic candidate, and 44 percent for a Republican. However, 58 percent disapprove of President Joe Biden&#8217;s job performance.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat, received a 46 percent favorable and 46 percent unfavorable rating, with the rest unsure. Meanwhile, U.S. Senator Bob Casey is viewed favorably by 48 percent of those polled and unfavorably by 35 percent. Newly elected Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro fared best, with a 54 percent approval rating and 31 percent disapproval.<\/p>\n<h2>Looking Ahead<\/h2>\n<p>Although Shapiro has only held the governor&#8217;s seat for a little over three months, 20 percent of those polled would like to see him run for president in 2024.
