The panel, titled \u201cChange from Within: A New Vision for the 21st Century Prosecutor,\u201d featured prominent prosecutors from around the country, and the discussion centered on the different ways that current and aspiring prosecutors could fundamentally alter the justice system from within. Critics argue that activist prosecutors are driving a significant spike in crime across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah George, State\u2019s Attorney for Chittenden County, Vermont, stated that she went to law school because she wanted to dismantle the criminal legal system and saw that as the best method to remedy the \u201cinjustices in our justice system.\u201d Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez favored limiting incarceration and cash bail, asking for the minimum period of parole, and rescinding all letters opposing inmates\u2019 parole.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Hullihan, deputy general counsel for Citizens Defending Freedom, stated that progressive prosecutors undermine duly enacted laws passed by their respective state legislatures, public safety, the separation of powers, and often the constitutional oath of office required by public officials.
