He explained the intensity of the situation in a conversation with Diane Sawyer, during which he also explained just how bad things were. In the interview, Renner revealed that he wrote the words for his family, apologizing as he cried, leaving Sawyer moved.<\/p>\n<p>Renner&#8217;s snowplow accident happened on New Year\u2019s Day, and the actor was almost crushed to death. \u00a0He explained that he would have died a slow and painful death if it weren&#8217;t for his nephew&#8217;s attention to his condition, who called for help.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I was there on my own, that would have been a horrible way to die. And surely I would have. Surely,\u201d Renner explained, choking up a bit as he added, \u201cBut I wasn\u2019t alone. It was my nephew. Sweet Alex. And the rest of the cavalry came.\u201d He was airlifted, and doctors found he had broken 30 bones, which made him uncertain that he would survive. \u201cSo I\u2019m writing down notes in my phone \u2026 last words to my family,\u201d he said, apologizing to Sawyer as he struggled to keep his emotions in check.<\/p>\n<p>Sawyer&#8217;s interview also showed coverage from Renner&#8217;s airlift from the accident site and an audio of the 911 call that brought first responders to rescue him.
