Stacey Abrams<\/a>, who served as the Democratic nominee for governor in Georgia<\/a>, has been appointed as the Ronald W. Walters Endowed Chair for Race and Black Politics<\/a> at Howard University<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As the inaugural endowed chair, Abrams will focus on collaborating with different disciplines to address critical issues in black politics and race. <\/p>\n

Abrams expressed her gratitude for being awarded the endowed chair, saying, “I am honored to serve as the inaugural Ronald W. Walters Endowed Chair for Race and Black Politics, having had the privilege of knowing and learning from Dr. Walters.”<\/p>\n

In this role, Abrams looks forward to engaging the students of Howard University in a conversation about the policies that help shape the critical public policy decisions for American and global democracy.<\/p>\n

Her post will be housed in the Ronald W. Walters Leadership and Public Policy Center, where the chair will inspire research and broad discussions of scholarship for finding real-world solutions to complex societal problems that adversely affect African diasporic communities and other vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n

The Ronald W. Walters Speakers Series will also be led by Abrams, featuring a variety of distinguished guest speakers discussing diverse topics.<\/p>\n

Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick praised the appointment of Stacey Abrams, stating, “Ms. Abrams\u2019 selection not only honors the work and legacy of renowned political strategist and scholar Dr. Ronald Walters, it expands on that legacy by bringing Howard students in dialogue with a contemporary candidate whose work has directly influenced today\u2019s political landscape.” <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
