The race is one of the most expensive court battles in history, with total spending exceeding $40 million, and neither candidate belongs to a political party. The conservative candidate, former Justice Dan Kelly, is supported by most Republicans, while the liberal candidate, Judge Janet Protasiewicz, is backed by most Democrats. The winner will earn a 10-year term on the court and determine the court&#8217;s ideological balance.<\/p>\n<p>Protasiewicz has received donations from left-wing billionaire George Soros and Gov. Though officially non-partisan, the candidates have nearly polar opposite views on divisive issues like abortion, with Protasiewicz supporting it and Kelly receiving endorsements from key pro-life groups in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The election&#8217;s outcome could have an impact on several key issues in the state, including abortion laws, election integrity measures, election maps, and gun laws. Last year, the state&#8217;s Supreme Court ruled that Wisconsin voters could not turn their ballots into unmanned drop boxes or give them to others to drop off for them. Republicans currently control the state&#8217;s general assembly, while Democrat Gov.
