Matching bills, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/fulltext.asp?DocName=&#038;SessionId=112&#038;GA=103&#038;DocTypeId=HB&#038;DocNum=2463&#038;GAID=17&#038;LegID=147546&#038;SpecSess=&#038;Session=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 2463<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/fulltext.asp?DocName=&#038;SessionId=112&#038;GA=103&#038;DocTypeId=SB&#038;DocNum=1909&#038;GAID=17&#038;LegID=146759&#038;SpecSess=&#038;Session=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 1909<\/a>, were sponsored by State Democrats. SB 1909 passed the state Senate on Friday, but the state House has not voted on its bill.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-548244215\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div  class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7df1725e7fda009152344932aba8414b fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-7df1725e7fda009152344932aba8414b\"><\/div>\n<p>The bill&#8217;s stated aim is to safeguard women against \u201cdeceptive, fraudulent, and misleading practices\u201d while making \u201cautonomous\u201d decisions about their \u201creproductive health.\u201d According to the act, pregnancy centers may face fines of up to $50,000 if it &#8220;appears&#8221; that a violation has occurred, as determined by the attorney general.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate bill has been overwhelmingly opposed, as evidenced by witness slips, which allow citizens and organizations to express their opinions publicly about legislation, at a count of 8,725 to 2,652 at deadline. However, the bill was approved by the Senate executive committee on Wednesday and the full Senate on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Critics of the bill immediately highlighted the act&#8217;s \u201cspecious use of language\u201d and the attempt to \u201cpunish pregnancy centers \u2026 for their unwillingness to commit murder\u201d after Democrats introduced it. \u201cThis act is intended to shut us down. Never in our 14-year history have I seen anything so shocking,\u201d said Kelly Rozanski, co-founder and board president of the Aurora-based Waterleaf Women&#8217;s Center.
