The move comes after several state\u2019s attorney generals and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott asked the Biden administration to do so but it has not.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State Antony Blinken testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week at which Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_f41d87da-c996-11ed-807e-37adc7ad1165.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked him<\/a><\/strong> if he would designate Mexican cartels as FTOs. It designates nine Mexican cartels as FTOs.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Graham are Sens. This task force would be similar to the National Counterterrorism Center, which was established after 9\/11 to coordinate intelligence gathering, according to the bill.<\/p>\n<div id=\"content_4_btf_wrapper\" class=\"adunitwrapper content_btf_wrapper mv-size-undefinedxundefined\" data-wrapper=\"content_4_btf\" data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<div id=\"content_4_btf\" class=\"content_btf adunit\">           <\/div>\n<p>         <mv-ad-reporter data-slot-id=\"content_4_btf\" data-offering=\"1\" data-offering-name=\"mediavine\" style=\"display: block;\"><\/mv-ad-reporter><\/div>\n<p>They filed the bill six months after Abbott was the first to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_7b60b01a-3a03-11ed-9daf-2bbe9929e260.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">designate<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0two Mexican cartels as FTOs through executive order. Last month, 21 attorneys general also called on the president and Blinken to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott\u2019s request last fall was the second he\u2019d made. The existence of such forces just across our southwestern land border, and the Mexican government\u2019s inability to control them, pose a threat to our national security far greater than a typical drug-trafficking enterprise.<\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">\u201cThat threat is made greater still by the known links between the Mexican drug cartels and [FTOs] like Hezbollah who already intend to do us harm. Greg Abbott asked the Biden administration to do so but it has not.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State Antony Blinken testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week at which Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_f41d87da-c996-11ed-807e-37adc7ad1165.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked him<\/a><\/strong> if he would designate Mexican cartels as FTOs. This task force would be similar to the National Counterterrorism Center, which was established after 9\/11 to coordinate intelligence gathering, according to the bill.<\/p>\n<div id=\"content_4_btf_wrapper\" class=\"adunitwrapper content_btf_wrapper mv-size-undefinedxundefined\" data-wrapper=\"content_4_btf\" data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<div id=\"content_4_btf\" class=\"content_btf adunit\">           <\/div>\n<p>         <mv-ad-reporter data-slot-id=\"content_4_btf\" data-offering=\"1\" data-offering-name=\"mediavine\" style=\"display: block;\"><\/mv-ad-reporter><\/div>\n<p>They filed the bill six months after Abbott was the first to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/texas\/article_7b60b01a-3a03-11ed-9daf-2bbe9929e260.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">designate<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0two Mexican cartels as FTOs through executive order. Last month, 21 attorneys general also called on the president and Blinken to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott\u2019s request last fall was the second he\u2019d made. The existence of such forces just across our southwestern land border, and the Mexican government\u2019s inability to control them, pose a threat to our national security far greater than a typical drug-trafficking enterprise.<\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">\u201cThat threat is made greater still by the known links between the Mexican drug cartels and [FTOs] like Hezbollah who already intend to do us harm. Greg Abbott asked the Biden administration to do so but it has not.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State Antony Blinken testified at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week at which Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_f41d87da-c996-11ed-807e-37adc7ad1165.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asked him<\/a><\/strong> if he would designate Mexican cartels as FTOs. It designates nine Mexican cartels as FTOs.<\/p>\n<p>Joining Graham are Sens. Last month, 21 attorneys general also called on the president and Blinken to do the same.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott\u2019s request last fall was the second he\u2019d made.
