Existing research shows that higher levels of testosterone do impact athletic performance. But there\u2019s limited research involving elite trans athletes in competition,&#8221; NPR&#8217;s official Twitter account noted on Sunday afternoon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While NPR&#8217;s response was criticised for being only a half-correction, many people point out that there is ample scientific proof that men have a definite physical advantage over women. Orthopedic surgeon Mary O\u2019Connor, for example, stated recently that the sex differences between males and females actually start in utero and are then accelerated during puberty due to testosterone. Consequently, men are generally bigger, stronger, have greater heart and lung capacity, and have stronger bones than women.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-there-is-absolutely-a-physical-advantage-there-s-no-question-the-science-is-clear-o-connor-concludes\">According to O\u2019Connor, &#8220;there is absolutely a physical advantage. There&#8217;s no question the science is clear.&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>Former mediocre male swimmer Lia Thomas who rewrote the record books in female competition highlights the issue. NPR could be better served by believing in the women who have had to play with or against transgender women.<\/p>\n<p>Women&#8217;s sports advocate Riley Gaines recently revealed that girls had to change naked in a locker room with Thomas, who strutted around with male genitalia.
