H<\/span>ouse Speaker Kevin McCarthy<\/a> (R-CA) expressed outrage over the indictment of former President Donald Trump<\/a>, calling it an “injustice” and an interference in an election.<\/p>\n

On Thursday evening, the grand jury investigating Trump for months announced the indictment, which came as a surprise. McCarthy, who has been defending Trump amidst rumors of a pending indictment and arrest, took to Twitter to slam the historic move.<\/p>\n

“Alvin Bragg has irreparably damaged our country in an attempt to interfere in our Presidential election,” McCarthy tweeted. “The American people will not tolerate this injustice, and the House of Representatives will hold Alvin Bragg and his unprecedented abuse of power to account.”<\/p>\n

McCarthy is not alone in his criticism of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, as other influential GOP members have also berated him for investigating the hush money payments Trump made to porn star Stormy Daniels during his first campaign for the White House. Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH) and James Comer (R-KY) previously sent a letter pressuring Bragg to hand over communications he has had with the Department of Justice.<\/p>\n

Jordan had little to say on Thursday night following the announcement of Trump’s indictment, tweeting only one word in response: “Outrageous.”<\/p>\n
