However, while view is crucial, reality is less significant. They claimed that the new law would encourage the idea that Washington is a city that is forgiving of criminals by reducing legal phrases.<\/p>\n<p>Mendelson&#8217;s assertion was refuted by Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer( R-Ky. ).<\/p>\n<p>According to Comer,&#8221; DC definitely has a murder crisis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mendelson&#8217;s claim that crime is declining was refuted by studies presented by DC Police Union president Greggory Pemberton.<\/p>\n<p>Pemberton&#8217;s statistics show that over the past six years, military carjackings, murder, and robberies have all increased by a significant amount. ( Getty Images \/ Tasos Katopodis )<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The immediate result is a mass exodus of law officials from the bureau, according to what Pemberton presented as anti-police coverage.<\/p>\n<p>The MPD [ Metropolitan Police Department ] has lost 1, 194 soldiers, or one-third of the department, since the start of 2020. According to Pemberton&#8217;s written statement, 484 \u2014 nearly 40 %\u2014 of these separations were resignations, employees who had just left a career with MPD.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing was held just days after a Sen. They emphasized that in order to maintain schools, streets, utilities, and other community services, the city may function as a condition and deal with state-level issues like federal support and tax policies.<\/p>\n<p>They claim that giving Washington sovereignty and complete congressional representation may make the city better.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
