According to Kayyem, the gender identification of the shooter is a \u201cdistraction\u201d and it is essential to establish the motive of the killer to understand the massacre. The shooter, identified by the police as a 28-year-old female who identified as a male, murdered three 9-year-old children and three adults at a Christian elementary school. The killer used male pronouns and a male name. Despite the rarity of female biological mass shooters, there have been several transgender or non-binary mass shooters in recent years.
