Elise Stefanik (R-NY).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe employee was speaking in a personal capacity\u2026 as a result, the Director, DoDEA took no disciplinary action,\u201d the letter <a href=\"https:\/\/stefanik.house.gov\/_cache\/files\/8\/e\/8e8f2405-65fe-49e6-8640-52b0595be7fa\/BC48923A62FD4075AA3A57BF03E9051E.2023.03.23-letter-to-rep.-stefanik---dodea.pdf\">said<\/a>. \u201cThe Director, DoDEA concluded that it was appropriate for the employee to continue working for DoDEA. Separately, as part of a headquarters restructuring, the employee was reassigned to another position that does not include diversity, equity, and inclusion,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Despite taking six months to investigate, the letter\u2019s author, Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Gilbert R. It is not condoned. It is not something that I condone. It is not condoned by DoDEA or the Department of Defense.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-17477\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>He would not commit to publicly sharing the results of the investigation, citing Wing\u2019s privacy. He was unaware that Wing\u2019s own books were in the libraries of the schools she oversaw.<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik retorted: \u201cYou should know, you are a DoD official \u2026 One reason you should know that is in her own presentation as a DoD employee at a DoDEA summit, she stated, \u2018My passion work is dismantling disparate discipline systems, and I am hugely passionate about dismantling the school to prison pipeline, I have written a book [called] Promises and Possibilities Dismantling the School to Prison Pipeline \u2014 shameless plug.\u2019 That\u2019s her words.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stefanik said she suspects the \u201crestructuring\u201d was due to the public becoming aware of Wing\u2019s true feelings. \u201cShe should have been fired completely, but she was at least moved somewhere else, not dealing with our kids\u2019 educational systems,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the comments that the DoD determined were merely \u201cpersonal\u201d were only one of the issues raised by <a href=\"https:\/\/openthebooks.substack.com\/p\/agitate-agitate-agitate-militarys\">OpenTheBooks.com<\/a>, a leading government transparency organization. OpenTheBooks found that while working as a DOD employee, she also ran a consulting firm called Promises &#038; Possibilities LLC that has collected tens of thousands of dollars from other sources.<\/p>\n<p>A FOIA request showed that New Jersey\u2019s Cresskill School District paid Wing $26,200 simultaneous to her DOD job, before cancelling her contract following news of her offensive statements. \u201cDespite a full-time job based in Virginia, Wing often spent time during the work week conducting virtual or in-person training sessions for Cresskill staff,\u201d OpenTheBooks <a href=\"https:\/\/openthebooks.substack.com\/p\/military-stonewalling-on-controversial\">found<\/a>. The DOD refused to fulfill OpenTheBooks\u2019 FOIA request for timecards and conflict-of-interest disclosures that could show whether this amounted to misconduct. (Wing told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airforcetimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2023\/02\/10\/dod-schools-diversity-chief-responds-to-racism-claims\/\">Military Times<\/a> that \u201cI disclose to my employer my private activities as required.\u201d)<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">OpenTheBooks.com<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>OpenTheBooks said in a statement Friday that \u201cWing had stated that her mission was to \u2018\u2026 uproot, tear down, rip up and destroy inequitable spaces.\u2019 In addition to her six-figure GS-14 government job, Wing was also collecting tens of thousands of dollars through her private consultancy, offering these diversity and equity materials to public schools at large. This included the same professional trainings for staff that she was giving teachers in DODEA schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took multiple investigations from us and multiple hearings from Congress to finally get some answers and some action from the Department of Defense. Unfortunately, there are still outstanding questions for the Pentagon, including whether they plan to eliminate the role or find a replacement for Wing. The DoD also should account for how much public money is being spent on DEI material and trainings all across the Defense Department.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A DoDEA web page\u00a0<a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dodea.edu\/Offices\/DEI\/index.cfm?cssearch=650984_3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.dodea.edu\/Offices\/DEI\/index.cfm?cssearch=650984_3\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">previously said<\/a>\u00a0\u201cThe DODEA DEI Division was established in 2021 to create equitable access to opportunities, resources, and support for students, employees, and families through examination of beliefs, policies, practices, and interactions to eliminate inequities and disparities.
