They are reviewed by reviewers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s a simple, and symbiotic relationship that dates back to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/filmblog\/2012\/jan\/17\/birth-film-criticism-100-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>early days of cinema<\/span><\/a><span>. Actors often thank film critics for their support during awards season and, more specifically at the annual Critics Choice Awards gala.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>That service has recently come under fire from the perspective of the artists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Responsible social media, the abundance of information outlets, or our heightened awareness of the fact that being a victim is the highest level imaginable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Now, some creatives are lashing out when their work draws angry reviews from the expanding critical classes. Rotten Tomatoes, not only lets artists see a gaggle of reviews in one glance but offers a crisp summation of the critical community. <\/span><span>Fresh \u2026 or rotten. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The performers are also paying interest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s why actress <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/rachel-zegler-shazam-2-critics-hate-1235559517\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Rachel Zegler cried foul (on Twitter)<\/span><\/a><span> when \u201cShazam! Fury of the Gods\u201d scored a meek 52% \u201crotten\u201d score you-know-where.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>Hey, our movie is actually good, in fact. But mostly, I simply adored creating it and the people I met along the way. Visit it! Try it out. We have a thing for our 85 % customers rating.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>The film\u2019s director, David F. Sandberg, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/03\/shazam-fury-of-the-gods-director-david-f-sandberg-surprised-film-criticism-1235305168\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>took a lighter approach<\/span><\/a><span> but still called out critics who didn\u2019t enjoy his film.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>&#8221; I wasn&#8217;t expecting a critical remake of the first movie, but I was really pleasantly surprised because I think it&#8217;s an excellent drama.&#8221; Oh well.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Those comments came days after Seth Rogen, one of the most successful comic actors\/producers of the modern era, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2023\/03\/08\/seth-rogen-bemoans-film-critics-reviews-podcast\/11428413002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>came down even harder on the critical community<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>It is devastating when you are being institutionally told that your personal expression was poor, in my opinion. If most critics knew how much it hurt the people they are writing about( they would be) second guessing the way they write these things [ I know ] artists ] who never recover. That is truly severe.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>It\u2019s worth noting Rogen can be pretty cruel himself, lashing out at conservatives and, more specifically, once demeaning former <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/seth-rogen-insults-paul-ryan-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Rep. Paul Ryan in front of his children<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Maybe reviewers do go too far, making their comments minor and sometimes individual. Additionally, the stars may occasionally contact them out for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Carey Mulligan received praise for her employment in&#8221; Promising Young Woman&#8221; in 2021. One of Variety&#8217;s criticisms of her vigorous her rubbed her the wrong way.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>Margot Robbie is the maker in this film, and one can( possibly too easily ) consider the factor might have once been intended for Mulligan, a fine actress, as this admittedly multi-layered apparent femme fatale. While Cassie wears her pickup-bait gear like good drag with this star, especially her long golden hair seems put-on.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Mulligan voiced his displeasure, and the exit offered a bashful apology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Melissa McCarthy, the star of&#8221; Identity Thief,&#8221; was once called a&#8221; female hippo&#8221; and&#8221; a gimmick artist who has devoted her brief journey to being obese and obnoxious with equal success&#8221; by grumpy writer Rex Reed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/06\/16\/movies\/melissa-mccarthy-goes-over-the-top.html?pagewanted=1&#038;_r=0&#038;hp=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>McCarthy complained about the review<\/span><\/a><span> publicly, but Reed defended his critique. He added the controversy helped stir up ticket sales while offering an olive branch, of sorts, to McCarthy by calling her \u201cclassy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Some artists have dealt with critics more bluntly and vehemently.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Bob Balaban played the role of a film writer in Night Shyamalan&#8217;s 2006 failure&#8221; The Lady and the Water.&#8221; In his withering but humorous review, Roger Ebert noted both the personality and his part in the movie.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>\u201cI am the villain. OK, not me, precisely, but Film Criticism Itself, embodied by the splendid (movie critic word) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rogerebert.com\/cast-and-crew\/bob-balaban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Bob Balaban<\/span><\/a><span> as Mr. Farber, who is this film\u2019s own resident newspaper movie critic, offering caustic, self-aware commentary on the shortcomings of \u201cLady in the Water\u201d as it sloshes along. In Shyamalan\u2019s rickety mythology, Mr. Farber represents\u2026 well, nothing so much as the filmmaker\u2019s pre-emptive strike against the bad reviews he expects to receive for making this poorly written, stiffly directed, audience-insulting story-without-a-cause.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Zach Braff, an actor and producer, provided a more fair analysis of the artist \/ critical divide, and he ought to be aware of this. His 2004 directing comeback,&#8221; Garden State,&#8221; made critics swoon. Today, some of those same critics have criticized the show, claiming that its amateur tropes and quirky characters have caused it to age poorly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Braff recently told Variety he\u2019s at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/zach-braff-garden-state-hatred-manic-pixie-dream-girl-backlash-1235560324\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>peace with the shift.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>&#8221; I simply feel fortunate that I get to create things. Braff said,&#8221; I can&#8217;t really think about it.&#8221; &#8221; Just imagine it was out there in public, you know ,&#8221; said the teacher,&#8221; Anyone who&#8217;s ever got a bad grade on an essay can relate.&#8221; Nobody ever said it was simple to be creative, but you must be genuinely yourself and resilient. If not, what&#8217;s the issue?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Quentin Tarantino, a favorite writer, might have the last word on the eroding ties between writer and director.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The \u201cPulp Fiction\u201d auteur\u2019s 10th and allegedly final film will be called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/quentin-tarantino-sets-the-movie-critic-final-movie-1235351260\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>\u201cThe Movie Critic.\u201d<\/span><\/a><span> We know little about the project beyond it being set in the 1970s and boasting a female lead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Did Pauline Kael, who is arguably the most significant writer outside of Siskel &#038; Ebert, be honored? Or will the former movie store clerk&#8217;s mash-up statement be served to critics?
