Trump decried &#8220;illegal leaks&#8221; and a &#8220;highly political&#8221; prosecutor preparing to take him into custody, though it is not confirmed that he will be indicted on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is investigating the hush money payments made to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016, with some reports indicating that he is preparing to indict Trump on criminal charges. The case hinges on whether or not Trump falsified business records by listing reimbursement payments made to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, as legal expenses. At the time of Cohen&#8217;s trial, federal prosecutors did not press charges against Trump due to guidance from the Justice Department that a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime. However, prosecutors restarted discussions about potential charges shortly before Trump left office in 2021. If indicted, Trump would be the first former US president to face trial.<\/p>\n<p>Several other high-profile GOP lawmakers have dismissed Bragg&#8217;s case as a political vendetta.
