For example, McKellar missed the Emmy Awards ceremony in 1989 when \u201cThe Wonder Years\u201d won after its first season, to go on a pre-planned family trip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMy dad\u2019s work schedule was tough, so it really wasn\u2019t a question,\u201d Danica said. \u201cI was like, \u2018Yeah, of course we\u2019re going to do that. That\u2019s more important.\u2019 And I remember watching the Emmys from our tiny little motel room in Oregon the night before we hit the river.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The &#8220;Dancing with the Stars&#8221; competitor also described the importance of family time over work, explaining how moments like that established their family values.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI had a lot of core memories from that trip, and just the fact that my parents made that decision, and it was a clear choice,\u201d she said. \u201cThat type of thing, that\u2019s just indicative and representative of how they treated me and my sister growing up.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Danica also revealed that her parents treated her like a normal child apart from her work in Hollywood.
