GOP lawmakers denounced the move and called it a political attack in advance of an important election cycle.

MCCARTHY VOWS AN INVESTIGATION INTO MANHATTAN DA AHEAD EXPECTED TRUMP INDDICTMENT

“Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump,” Kevin McCarthy, the House Speaker (R-CA), stated this in a tweet Saturday. “I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions.”

McCarthy didn’t specify which committees McCarthy would ask to investigate the matter. The investigation would be conducted in conjunction with several other inquiries into the so called “weaponization” a number of government agencies conservatives believe are used against them.

Trump had posted hours earlier on his Truth Social account that Trump expects to be detained. “Tuesday of next week” He also urged his followers to protest. “take our nation back.” A spokesperson for Trump clarified his statement in a later statement. He stated that Trump has no direct knowledge of the timing of possible arrests.

After Trump’s post, other Republicans commented on it and accused Democrats de acting like “self-centered communists” We are seeking to indict the former President on a “fake outdated misdemeanor charge.”

“This is what they do in communist countries to destroy their political opponents! Republicans in Congress MUST subpoena these communists and END this!” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R. GA) stated in a tweet. “These idiots are sealing their own fate in 2024 because the silent majority has two feelings right now about the current regime. Fear and anger. That is the most powerful combination when election time comes. And the Democrats are driving that force with their own corrupt actions.”

Other Trump supporters maintained that an indictment against Trump would only help his reelection bid.

“I’ve been asked by multiple reporters if an indictment would lead me to rescind my endorsement of Donald Trump,” said Sen. J.D. Vance (R.OH), who has already endorsed Trump to be the GOP nominee. “The answer is: hell no. A politically motivated prosecution makes the argument for Trump stronger. We simply don’t have a real country if justice depends on politics.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik (Republican-NY) shared similar sentiments and called the move a “stupidity”. “dangerous” Democrats use ploy to defeat the “leading Republican candidate for president.”

“This is just a continuation of the disgraceful and unconstitutional pattern going back to the illegal Russian collusion hoax to attempt to silence and suppress the will of the voters who support President Trump and the America First Movement,” In a statement, the New York lawmaker stated that. “What these corrupt Leftist prosecutors like Alvin Bragg and their Socialist allies fail to understand is that America First Patriots have never been so energized to exercise their constitutional rights to peacefully organize and VOTE at the ballot box to save our great republic.”

After former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen testified before a Manhattan grand jury several times last week, reports of an imminent indictment surfaced. Daniels, who is actually Stephanie Clifford met with prosecutors Wednesday.

Cohen was previously convicted of paying two women accused by Trump of having sex affairs to be silence in 2018. Cohen was later reimbursed $130,000 by the Trump Organization as part of the scheme.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION FROM THE WASHINGTON XAMINER

Manhattan prosecutors launched an investigation into Trump’s falsifications of business records to record the reimbursement as a legal expenses. This crime is considered a misdemeanor by New York, but it could be made a felony if Bragg’s Office argues that the fraud was meant to cover up another crime.

Due to Justice Department guidance, Trump cannot be accused of a crime while he is in office, federal prosecutors decided not to press charges against Cohen. The possibility of Trump being charged with a crime was brought up again by prosecutors shortly before Trump’s resignation in 2021.

“Read more from Republicans decry possible Trump indictment as ‘abuse of power’”

“The views and opinions expressed here are solely those of the author of the article and not necessarily shared or endorsed by Conservative News Daily”

Republican lawmakers are lashing out against the Manhattan district attorney’s office after it was reported a grand jury was preparing to indict former President Donald Trump sometime next week.
