Everyone needs to be held to the same standard of the law, and that includes former presidents.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Cohen pleaded guilty to violating federal campaign finance laws in relation to a $130,000 payment made to Stormy Daniels porn star in 2016, to keep quiet about her alleged affair with married Trump. <\/p>\n<p>Although the Daniels agreement and payment were legal, prosecutors claimed that Cohen&#8217;s actions amount to an in-kind contribution. Prosecutors looked into whether Trump, who paid Cohen for the payment, had violated campaign finance rules by failing to report the payment as a contribution. However, they declined to press charges against Trump. <\/p>\n<p>Trump is <u>He remained innocent<\/u> In the matter, it is possible to deny he ever had an illicit relationship with Daniels or say the allegations are. &#8220;VERY OLD &#038; happened a long time ago, long past the very publicly known &#038; accepted deadline for the Statute of Limitations.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Although there are some questions about whether the case is beyond the statute of limitations Andy McCarthy, a former federal prosecutor, is skeptical that Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney would invest resources in an investigation he doesn\u2019t believe he has the ability to prosecute. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Since they do this stuff for a living, prosecutors are always conscious of the ticking clock and wouldn&#8217;t pour effort into a case that was clearly time-barred,&#8221; McCarthy <u>Submitted<\/u> Friday <\/p>\n<p>Trump being indicted could have a negative impact on his bid to return to the White House in 2024. The legal case could be based on whether Trump falsified business records, listing Cohen&#8217;s reimbursement payments for Daniels as legal expenses. In New York, such a crime is a misdemeanor.
